are you using beginner clubs?

no, #8 is usually a round killer for me too. those were just coincidentally lucky shots.

*Edit* - you are definitely using the beginners. You should switch to the advanced/pro clubs or whatever. The clicking is much more difficult but they are much more accurate when you get a good shot. I selected the pro clubs from the beginning, and just now tried the beginners - couldn't stand them and quit after 3 holes. Also, with the increased distance I've never used the 3 wood, the hybrid is plenty long on both 3 and 8.
