Please guys, do not use the SAT as an accurate measure of intelligence. In fact, don't use it as an accurate measure of anything because it's a biased test that has been proven to be a crock of [censored]. I would even question using IQ tests to measure intelligence. There's been plenty of debate about that as well. [/ QUOTE ] Back in high school all the kids that did [censored] kept saying this. |

Re: Men vs. Women - Serious post
there really are different styles of intelligence...academia seems to reward reading and memorizing...the salesment of the world generally do average at best in school settings...anyone with test phobias won't get evaluated fairly.
i know these things after years of teaching and test taking. i take tests extremely well, and taught students a lot of tips on how to do better as well. the cultural bias in testing isn't taken away by saying raoul went to the store either! |

Re: Men vs. Women - Serious post
I've heard in the past (can't remember where) that the average intelligence of men and women tends to be about the same. However, the distribution is different in that there are more "high intelligence" men than women, as well as more "low intelligence" men than women. I don't know if it's true, but it seems fairly accurate just based on personal experience.

Re: Men vs. Women - Serious post
I hate these threads.
How many of you geniuses can't figure out why the girl you like acts the way she does, or why black people get offended when you call them the n-word or why your brother married a catholic girl that you can't stand? |

The theory was that women take there intelligence from both parents but the man takes it from one parent. Thus, women have a buffering effect and less variance - e.g, for a woman to be brilliant she needs a brilliant "gene" from both parents where a man only needs it from one. I have no idea if it is true but it was an interesting article. |
