I always wear headphones AND read AND write in a notebook when I'm eating just so people leave me alone.

edit: actually, I do that when I'm not eating, too

I like eating alone. I prefer to daydream and think about things while I eat my meal. I don't feel like having a conversation with someone while eating, unless we're at a nice restaurant where we can relax and take our time.

Hiking, driving, watching sports (I hate idiots not knowing what's going on.). Pretty much everything now that I think about it.

Watching sports is like number 1 if the person you're with is even slightly less into it than you. There is nothing worst than yelling after a penalty or something and then have to explain what happened. With people who will just sit in silence and watch the game and appropriately bitch at the right moments, it's fine, but other than that, it's brutal.

Going to a nice restaurant alone with a book or a magazine can be really pleasant and relaxing if you're in the right mood.

QFT.

I was traveling on business the other day and stopped at a restaurant on the way home... Saturday dinner rush at about 6:30ish. The lobby was PACKED, so the normal wait must have been close to an hour. I almost left, but decided to ask what the wait was. Turns out they had one table for just one person and I was seated with no wait. I had a nice meal, enjoyed the book I was reading, and smiled at everyone still in the lobby as I left.
