well, they never really said they know what the cables on the beach do exactly. they could just connect the LG to the flame or the pearl or whatever. it could be powered from somewhere else and still be able to jam.

how can anyone not like desmond? or like desmond less than charlie?

besides as far as the whole story goes desmond seems infinitely more important than charlie, especially considering the only rescue that has come to the island so far was in search of him
