[ QUOTE ]
The moon would make a great penal colony. The prisoners wouldn't be able to return to earth because their bodies and hearts would be too weakened for them to survive. [/ QUOTE ] This is why my children spend 5 hours/day in a g-force accelerator. My superkids will rule the world! |

Re: Crazy Future Theories..
I think I saw this posted in SMP, but it's worth posting over here. It's TLDR, but it's amazing.

Re: Crazy Future Theories..
i have an optimistic view of the future:
in 1-3k years we will have colonized space, the moon and mars and we will be getting better at space travel. our own planet will be in eco-harmony and food will be plentiful. in 10-40k years our society will be one nation that more closely resembles that of a utopia. in 200-2000k years we will begin interstellar space travel. in 300-500 million years we will have countless colonies in the milkyway and evolution will start to catch up with our technology. also we will have rocket skateboards. |

Re: Crazy Future Theories..
Here's one; in 2050 the earth's population reaches nine billion, and the average wealth for most of humanity is higher than the current average in the US. There's not enough arable land to support them all on a western diet. Meat once again becomes a luxury item for the poor, even in wealthy countries, and the expense of food grows considerably relative to wealth.

Re: Crazy Future Theories..
read this book
http://www.amazon.com/Short-History-.../dp/0226869024 called A Short History of the Future. its about 2000 - 2200. It focuses on political, technological and cultural advannces. It is the culutural stuff that is the most interesting (break down of the family, childless marriages, etc). It ends with genetically engineered humans mating with other genetically engineered humans to create super genetically breeding humans which are so advanced they can no longer be considered human. |

Re: Crazy Future Theories..
[ QUOTE ]
Inspired from a reply by ExaMeter about the implied mass murder of the poor, and some discussions that have came of late. I'm curious what are some peoples "logical" but crazy predictions of the future. Mine is that eventually mass employers like Wal-mart will incorporate some form of barracks living for their lower end employee's. I think as the cost of living and min. wage gap increases eventually some form of departamentalized housing may develope as an employee "benifit". Considering Wal-Mart's land buying practices (the Wal-mart Mile) is it a far strech to see a dormitory on top of the store or nearby? I'd be curious about other people's predictions. [/ QUOTE ] Been there, done that. See Company Town; Company Store. |
