PAC 10 investigating Bush family
link
[ QUOTE ] At issue is the San Diego-area home's connection with businessman Michael Michaels, who reportedly attempted to steer Bush toward signing with San Diego agent David Caravantes, and sought to handle Bush's marketing with a new firm he had founded. State records showed construction was completed on the home in early 2005 and Michaels purchased it for $757,500 in late March, the website reported. Neighbors told Yahoo that Bush's mother Denise Griffin, stepfather LaMar Griffin and brother Jovan Griffin moved into the home shortly after that. NCAA rules prohibit student-athletes and their families from receiving extra benefits from agents or their representatives. Bush eventually signed with a different agent and marketing firm. Anyone know what kind of penalties could come if they are proven guilty? [/ QUOTE ] USC will probably go on some sort of weak probabtion for a couple years. An isolated incident by a player won't end up hurting them that much. Doesn't sound like he was connected with the school. |

Re: PAC 10 investigating Bush family
Wonder if the fact he didn't sign has something to do with the info getting "leaked"

Re: PAC 10 investigating Bush family
Bush family is getting sued for back rent and no comments the day before the draft?
Personally I'm stunned that some college players (or their families) are getting benefits under the table! |

This is really none of the NCAA's business and they should go [censored] themselves.

Re: PAC 10 investigating Bush family
[ QUOTE ]
This is really none of the NCAA's business and they should go [censored] themselves. [/ QUOTE ] Enforcing their rules certainly is their business. Granted, many of their rules are a bit odd, and usually unenforceable, and arbitrarily enforced, but they probably have an interest in preventing unseemly influence in college sports. The funny thing about this though is the agent was giving out of a desire to land Bush as a client, not to keep him at USC or get him to go to USC. I'm sure he could care less where he goes to school. Of course, if a bigtime program looks the other way on this agent stuff it provides a recruiting incentive ("Hey, come here, you can take all the money you want from whoever, we don't care!"), but it's not like USC gains a direct advantage by Bush being able to live there. |
