If the coach thought for whatever reason that this would help the team win then whats wrong with it? I simply don't see the outrage and the feelings of sorrow for Solo.

Also the Lebron analogy is way off imo. I would think that a better analogy would be a star pitcher, but you have a decent #2 pitcher who has played well against one team all year....so in an important game when both are rested and available you go with the #2 instead.

yes, actions of a child-- she was basically bitching/whining like a little kid in front of the cameras. i'm not saying the coach was in the right either, but that is beside the point. saying "he started it" does not condone her actions. her emotions regarding being benched were natural, but that doesn't mean her actions were justified.

how did you arrive at this decision? the coach made a tactical error by benching her, but whether she meant to or not she escalated the conflict to a more personal level. they both made mistakes, but imo her mistake greater was b/c she acted in an unprofessional manner.

she had every right to voice her displeasure and as a competitor i would not expect her to do so; however, she shouldn't have been badmouthing her team/coach on camera. her pregame comments were legitimate-- she said she wasn't happy about it, but she would obv be there to support the team. if you've got beef, then set up a meeting and go talk to the coach. again, imo she handled it in an unprofessional manner.

edit: also, i'm not really against him sitting her for the 3rd place game b/c there has to be some sort of penalty for publicly bashing the coach. in addition to that, i doubt her teammates were thrilled w/her outburst, particularly the veterans that have played w/scurry for a while. since this game doesn't really mean anything, i think it's best to keep solo on the bench. if this were a double elimination scenario or something like that, i think it would be a harder decision as to who you would play.

If he had a legitimate reason for the switch, whatever. But he switched because of the retarded notion that "Scurry plays well against Brazil." Solo is entering her prime athletically and comes in with over 3 games worth of shutout soccer and you bench her? Unless Scurry channels the spirits of Oliver Kahn and Peter Schmeichel, there's no way she's the better choice in this match.

i think pretty much everyone agrees that he was a moron for benching her to begin with. i'm surprised that people are ok with her lashing out; something like this would be unacceptable on every team i've ever been on.
