Re: God help me, roommate drama advice wanted
[ QUOTE ]
Put a goodbye note on the living room floor. To make sure it doesn't blow away, pin it down with an enormous lathe. [/ QUOTE ] Very very nice. Post of the month. |

Re: God help me, roommate drama advice wanted
[ QUOTE ]
I would pack up my stuff and leave when she's at work. Then go to her work and tell her you're moving out. This will probably avoid some major conflict. The plus side is if it does result in major conflict, she will also be fired and/or arrested. [/ QUOTE ] arrrgh. as others have pointed out...why does she deserve the courtesy of you telling her that you are leaving? Just leave already. No need to tell her. She can figure it out. Her yelling and getting all bizarre and psycho = I'm gone. No note. No stopping by her workplace. She's a psycho and is yelling all the time so I decided to leave. Simple as that. |

Re: God help me, roommate drama advice wanted
Thanks for all the advice, all. I think I was basically just kind of venting. For those suggesting I just pack up and leave without notice, I kind of need to tread delicately because she does have one month's rent as a security deposit that I'd like to get back without going to small claims court or whatever. (I sublet through her on a month-to-month basis, not with the owner.)
Clearly this wasn't the ideal way to pick a roommate. I was pressed for time and went with my gut. Last time I'll do that for a while. I am out of there--I'm crashing at my dad's starting tonight until I can find a new place (without a roommate.) I sent her an e-mail but she hasn't responded yet. I'm going to head home around 8 PM or so and if she's there I guess we'll talk. BTW, if I have time later tonight, I'll post some pictures of some of the damage she's done to the place in the few weeks I've lived there, and updates if there are any. Again, thanks. -Brad PS-Ammbo, I'm actually living in Chicago now. Thanks for the offer. |

Re: God help me, roommate drama advice wanted
When I first moved to SF I rented a room with a crazy middle-aged Japanese divorce. She used to freak out on me for the weirdest [censored]. Like running up the phone bill when I was trying to find a home for my dog, and I was standing there with cash in hand the day the bill came. "Look, here's the money" ($70 or something). "Thas not the point. Thas not the point. The NERVE!" She was nuts. Longest 2 months of my life until I could find another place.

I was sure you were in LA when I read this. Where in Chicago? I can offer the services of a "collections agent," if nec.

I am sure that even OP would have to admit that his use of antipdepressants make this situation mainly his fault.

I am sure that even OP would have to admit that his use of antipdepressants make this situation mainly his fault. [/ QUOTE ] Obviously. Well, I'm out. Packed up all my stuff (except some clothes hanging in the closet, which I forgot--I'll pick it up tomorrow.) Here are the pictures, as promised. Nothing spectacular, but this was all in one night: That's one way to take the blinds down. She claimed this "sculpture" was worth $8000. It looked like a cheap piece of plaster crap, but either way it's worthless now. (She asked if I had broken it.) In the process of destroying the window dressing she managed to pop up the window screen. For some reason she had propped it on our upstairs neighbors/landlord's doorstep. They have a small child so I moved it to the side. |

She's going to blame you for the damage and keep your deposit.
