Just calling the river when AJ, AA or KK have to be WELL within his range would be just silly.
It's not like he's going to lay-down many of the worse hands for another 2-3k here.

[/ QUOTE ]

Let me try to elaborate again. Yes, at the time I was 100% sure I had the guy. The only hand that could beat me was JJ and I didn't even contemplate JJ; hence my push. What I'm saying now is that upon further evaluation I 'could' have deduced based on the opponents reaction to the flop that JJ was unlikely but possible given the pf action and his reaction to the flop -- I've played a lot of poker and have never seen a solid player have that kind of reaction.

So what I'm saying is that if I thought about it a bit more I might have deduced that JJ was possible and just called (of course I would never fold). As others have stated, there was no chance the guy would fold to my 2-3k reraise unless he was on a stone cold bluff so it was extremely likely that I would get paid off by a big range of hands. However, the 2-3k would not have been that terrible with 50/100 blinds so just in case he did have the JJ hand, I could still have come back. I'm not beating myself over the head about it. This is the only $10k event I have played, but I played in 6 other WSOP events last year and have played in about a dozen other 1-3k NL tournaments and have made my share of bad bust-out plays and am comfortable that this was not one of them. I just might have played it differently, that's all.

Unless your read was near dead-certain I think it's horribly incorrect to call here 'just in case' he has quads.

I was playing a $5 turbo to a qualifier on Stars, and my aces got cracked by K/Q right on the bubble. Man, that sucked.

scooter, bob and pete,

is may be too early in the morning for me but isnt J9 and J5 a winning hand? as well as Jx (river rag). looks like 99 is 5th nuts.

may not change the analysis any but looks like it's not just the rare chance that villain has quads that will win.

Those possible hand holdings were discounted because of the re-raise before the flop.

correct. scotter mentioned that the reraise PF makes these hands EXTREMELY unlikely.

I was gonna say something like "at least you weren't that guy."

But seriously, one of my goals there is not to cry on camera. The second one is not to piss myself. Can you tell I'm excited?

I got knocked out by the smoke in the hall when I played in one of the smaller tournaments. I understand there will be a separate smoking room this year. Thank you Harrahs.

Halfway through day 1. I have roughly 15 BB in my stack. MP1 with about a 30 BB stack open-raises 4x BB. Folded to me. I catch AA in the SB. I push. Evryone else folds. MP1 calls and shows JJ. Guy in the BB tells me that he mucked a J. River is a you know what. Guy on the rail tells me "It'll only hurt for a half hour or so."
