, I literally had to FF through Joey's snivelling exit interview. [/ QUOTE ] That was gruesome, I changed the channel. Anyone notice Hung looked like he had tears in his eyes at the judges table? I like that Howie started out NOT blaming his teammate. Then she tried to blame him and he just let loose on her. [ QUOTE ] For some reason New Yorkers love themselves like no one else does besides the French. [/ QUOTE ] That's great Blarg. I'm gonna use that in the future. Go back to your beloved New York Joey. |

Re: Top Chef 8/1 Thread
If anyone else watches No Reservations on the travel channel you would remember that in the Paris episode he walked by a rat musuem and said it was a new Rocco Restaurant called Rats.

the couple of times I've bought something like this, it was exactly because it was something I didn't think I could make from scratch very easily. [/ QUOTE ] This is off topic and not really directed at you, but ... ...I think this is not a good reason to buy something frozen. With a few exceptions*, the pre-made product will bear little resemblance to the homemade product. If you want a specific thing, I just don't think buying it frozen in a bag is the way to get it. *I don't care how much better it is, I just don't see myself making puff pastry at home. |

Great chefs don't make or endorse quickly cooked meals? I can think of a few. [/ QUOTE ] I think the key word there is "great." Plenty of celebrity chefs do, but I tend to think those guys have moved beyond actually cooking and into themselves as brands. And that's fine and all, but I do think it's a seperate class of chefs. |

speaking of the challenges
Do you think they'll try too hard to make up new challenges (like the ID of food one) when old challenges would work just as well since there are new competitors involved?
To me, it can kind of take away from the contestants if the challenges get really lame. Also, I think Joey deserves his own joeybitch story. Whatta crybaby. God, it's just a show. Looks like someone got a little 'delicate' with him. b |

Re: speaking of the challenges
I thought the episode overall was interesting. It's funny how early on someone pointed out that the two teams who will have the biggest communication issues were the two teams that failed.
Also, they made it clear in watching the episode that Hung was right on both counts and that Joey was flat out wrong in both the pasta and the IQF. I'm surprised no one has hypothesized yet about next week's episode. The previews make it look like Howie said a nasty comment to Sara N. I also am not sure how cooking really will fit in. Sara M. has to go. |

[ QUOTE ] I don't think there's any attempts for the product placement to not be obvious. Just pretend each ep has a different sponsor, I don't think it takes away from the quality of the show at all. I thought especially this ep was a nice way of pimping the sponsor and challenging the chefs. [/ QUOTE ] I agree. I don't think it takes away from the show at all. b [/ QUOTE ] It's not the product placement I mind, it's when they design silly challenges specifically around the product. This is called Top Chef, not Top Frozen Dinner creator. My problem is that the task came down, basically, to figuring out the correct freezing method. That's not why I watch this show. |
