[ QUOTE ]
As a Mets fan I can tell you right now that you will have no hair on your head left by the end of the season if Braden Looper sees 60 games. [/ QUOTE ] I wonder this too. Looper has allowed 17 hits, three walks and eight earned runs in 8 2/3 innings this spring. He had a poor year last year and was bothered by shoulder problems. He was signed this offseason to a three year $13.5 contract. He hardly looks like a $5 million dollar per year pitcher at this point. Walt Jocketty usually knows what he is doing some only time will tell. Go Aaron Miles! 4-5 with 2 RBI's. I am glad they wised up with regards to Spivey. Pujols (2 HR's) and Rolen (grand slam) did not look too bad either. GO CARDS!!!!

the first two games against the small bears have not gone well to say the least
The 5-1 game was uglier than the score... Bad pitching, bad hitting, bad fielding, mental mistakes. It was like the two teams had switched jerseys. The only bright sports were Edmonds being locked in on Maddux and Rolen's ability to turn on an inside pitch and smash it for a double with his shoulder. Carpenter pitched a gem in game 2 and the offense got enough off of Zambrano partly by taking advantage of his emotional instability. The breaks (*cough* umpires *cough*) definitely went the Cards way. Unfortunately, the bullpen picked game 5 as its first poor performance. Barrett and Lee hit the dingers....game over. The Cubbies bullpen looked much better from the last few years. I'm looking forward to seeing Ponson tomorrow. ugh... Suppan v Maddux Carpenter v Zambrano Ponson v Marshall should've gotten 2 of 3 here Oh well, it wouldn't be April if I didn't have to hear how great the Cubs are. |

Astros 12-5 out of the gate. With 2 rookies in the rotation and a 2nd-year pitcher.
Maybe the Cardinals will get the Wild Card though. |

Lance Berkaman is hitting .359, Craig Biggio .323, Ensberg .414, Ausmus .308 Meanwhile for the cards Edmonds is hitting .180, Encarnacion .210, Molina .190, Taguchi .214 and yet the cards are still 11-6 to the stros 12-5 and record. I'm not too concerned. The cards can only play better and the astros are playing way above their realistic long term potential. |

And what about Preston Wilson, Andy Pettite, and our entire bullpen? What about when they turn things around and start playing to their "realistic long term potential"? Kind of blows your theory out of the water doesn't it? Considering what the Cardinals lost in the offseason and the mediocre players they are counting on to replace them, it can be said the Cardinals are the ones playing over their heads and due for a drop off. Walker > Encarnacion Sanders > Rodriguez/Taguchi Morris > Ponson |

[ QUOTE ]
Walker > Encarnacion [/ QUOTE ] nope, walker shouldn't have even played in the NLCS last year. Rodriguez would have been better, but there was no way they were gonna bench Walker in his final year. [ QUOTE ] Morris > Ponson [/ QUOTE ] Not so far, although we'll have to wait and see. [ QUOTE ] it can be said the Cardinals are the ones playing over their heads and due for a drop off. [/ QUOTE ] Huh? Did you even look at the stats I posted. The cardinals have basically won all their games thanks to Pujols, and to some extent Rolen and Eckstein, along with their starting pitching. Their bullpen has been horrible, although better as of late, and they have four starters batting below .220. How are they possibly playing above their realistic potential? |
