Mass Effect alone should make you want to get a 360. It's going to be an epic.

Seriously, this could easily get GOY this year if it lives up to half the hype...

Gotta be honest here, I think people are bashing the PS3 pretty heavily right now. IMO within the first year of the 360 launching there was very little reason to buy it. PDZ, PGR3, Dead Rising? There weren't many big titles for it. PS3 is doing pretty well considering how expensive it is. Give it some time and I'm sure it will at least start competing with the 360.

Great point.

I'm really looking forward to SoF: Payback for the PS3.

PDZ, PGR3, Dead Rising, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, Oblivion, Dead or Alive 4, Saints Row, Splinter Cell Double Agent, Fight Night Round 3, Viva Pinata, Enchanted Arms, Ninety Nine Nights, a friggin ton of XBox Live arcade games the least of which not being Geometry Wars or Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting, and I'm sure I'm leaving off lots of great regular games. The 360 already had a very decent library by the first year.

Gears of War made it out just before the one year anniversary.

And in addition to the games Dire mentions, Burnout Revenge, Kameo and Table Tennis also came out with the first year.

+ of course a crapload of horrid games.

Oblivion, Ninja Gaiden, Rainbow 6, Resistance, Warhawk, Tekken 5, a bunch of games on PSN, Ghost Recon, The Darkness, Fight Night Round 3, Fifa, NBA & NHL 08, The Show, Lair, Enchanted Arms... There's a decent library out for the PS3 as after its first year, but like the 360 just no jaw droppers (IMO Oblivion is the exception to both systems, the game is just awesome).

The problem here is that the vast majority of the games you just listed were already available on the 360, many of which run and/or look better on the 360. In a way that's not fair to the PS3. But there are pros and cons to coming to the market early or late. In coming to the market late, the PS3 needs to offer unique reasons to purchase a PS3. Delayed and often questionable quality ports of 360 games don't really qualify as a reason.

There are some wikipedia pages that list the games for each platform with their release dates. I just did a count of games from the first year for the 360 and the PS3. The 360 had 92 and the PS3 will have about 77 when Nov 17th rolls around. And yes, I was bored

That's actually a lot closer than I was expecting.

As for games that sold the system to people, the 360 obviously had the advantage that there weren't any other next-gen consoles it had to compete with. The PS3 will have to top what's on the 360 if it wants to be king of the hill. And personally I don't see any games on the horizon that'll let it do that. Most of the games that are coming out are coming out on both platforms. And the 360 has the better exclusives right now, imo.

Like a 30% hardware failure rate (even 2 yrs later)? I know, low blow, and it doesn't seem to matter a whole lot (except costing M$ a TON of $$$).

Fiskebent, have you seen the screenshots or vids of FF XIII? They made an entirely new engine (since before the PS3 was released) called the White Engine and the shots I've seen look incredible. Better than any game I've seen so far.

W/ the numbers the way they are the PS3 will do fine (prop bet anyone?). Worst case scenario is it has a 'bad' generation similar to the GameCube, which still had plenty of must have games. I'm not really worried.

Can't say that I have. I still haven't played FFXII. I'm still waiting for it to come out as a platinum game.
I always think that FF games sound incredibly good but when I get them, I just can't finish them.
Guitar Hero is much more my kind of game where I can play for 30 minutes and put it down again.
