Re: *Red Sox thread* News, views, and love for the front office
i made a post saying dinardo would be a 'fine 5th starter for NOW' which he really wasnt. whatever, no big deal, it was four starts. instead of looking at the situation and offering a better solution, you pine for bronson arroyo.
hes not on the team! he was traded for a 24 year old offensive power who has beeen VERY good in boston. typical boston fan. whine about the negative and brush aside the positive. |

Re: *Red Sox thread* News, views, and love for the front office
No I don't like the Pena trade and not just for the obvious short term negatives of losing a good(not great) strarting pitcher when the staff had so many question marks.
My concern with Pena is that he is so challenged defensively. If we didn't have Ortiz i could buy but there just isn't any place to hide him. |

[/ QUOTE ] hes not *that* bad. the way a fielder 'looks' is alomost never a good indicator of his actual skill level. see jeter and mike lowell for perfect examples of this. granted he will be AWFUL out there once he loses his speed, but for right now he will be ok in a corner outfield spot |

Re: *Red Sox thread* News, views, and love for the front office
the red sox made the wmp trade because they had more starters than they needed and could get a promising young player at a position where they didnt have anyone. that is a good idea. now it looks like a bad trade (in hindsight) because
1. arroyo is overperforming, in a weaker division to boot 2. the red sox have had a bunch of pitching injuries + clement being awful if you could have predicted these things, then of course it would have been a bad decision. too bad you can't. |

Re: *Red Sox thread* News, views, and love for the front office
also the staffs questions marks were not that bad. papelbon was slotted for a spot and wells was not hurt.
[censored] happens, like crisp gettign hurt and us having pena to step up and not somebody like crosby. |

Re: *Red Sox thread* News, views, and love for the front office
as hard as it is to do in sports, i think the best way to evaluate deals (signings, trades etc) is how did the front office perform AT THE TIME OF THE DEAL with all the relevant information.
if the front office had known arroyo was going to perform at a higher level for 30% of a season and they would lose wells to injury for that time, then maybe dont make the deal. i have no problem with them making this deal. the only thing you can ask is they make sure of important information and ignore umimportant info. they will look awful in some spots (clement) but lets not forget who NY signed that offseason either. like any form of gambling, making deals contains the element of risk. all you can ask is a team minimize that risk as much as possible. i think the red sox do a good job of that. |
