Will America ever realize that everyone having access to guns isn't a good idea [/ QUOTE ] If everyone has guns, these shooting rampages will be very short-lived. Outlawing guns only ensures that [censored] like this will happen because only the murderer will have a gun when the shooting goes down. |

Was it in this thread that I read about the first "incident" at 7am that was in a co-ed dorm, was supposedly an isolated incident between a male/female couple where the male shot and killed the female, and then the RA. And supposedly this was not the same guy/had nothing to do with what occured after? Does anyone else have a hard time believing this?

In situations like this I've never felt that much empathy for those involved. Not to say I don't feel bad that it happened, just that there's not much of an effect on me. It's weird to see someone saying they cried about this and knew no one involved. It feels very distant to me, much like the bombings/killings around the world that don't bother me too much. I'm not going to make jokes about it or anything because I don't find it funny and I don't want to upset anyone who is upset by all of this. I just think it's interesting how these things affect everyone differently.
One thing I have to say: There's alot of hate in here for officials not cancelling classes after the first shooting. Now for me, if I heard people were shot on campus and did not hear definite proof that the suspect was captured, I'M NOT GOING TO SCHOOL! I think the official act of cancelling classes is redundant at that point. Of course, that being said, the people in charge had to shut down the dorms to make sure no one got in to shoot more people. That's where they [censored] up, not the class cancelling thing. |

Is it weird that I feel far more affected by this than 9/11? [/ QUOTE ] I feel the same, powerless and weak. You run the scenarios in your head over and over. What would I have done if I had been on the plane? Would I have saved the Trade Centers? Would I have crashed the plane? Would I have gone across campus to save my girlfriend or hid in fear? I think a lot of emotions stem from being unable to know what you would have done in the same shoes, while other emotions (anger) come from how incredibly [censored] up people are in this world. |
