from the NFL rules here
[ QUOTE ]
6. The player who first controls and continues to maintain control of a pass will be awarded the ball even though his opponent later establishes joint control of the ball.

[/ QUOTE ]

one might think that Driver having both hands and the Bears defender having to reclutch from his overhand grip when the ball was high to trying an underhand pull away when they hit the ground would mean Driver had originally caught the ball and #36 McCowen (sp?) did not have the ball

exactly...the Bears defender was the first to let go and did not maintain after Driver was the first to get the ball to begin with

I am stunned that the play was not reviewed.

Shots?

Sheesh....my apologies, princess, for any offense I caused in posting a smiley face.

the thing under debate IMO is whether Driver was first to control

I think he was controlling it just fine from the replays I saw and was first to get to it

I thought it was over who caught the ball.

FWIW, McGowan did.

i'm breaking down what a catch is....you know, using FACTS
Driver catches the ball, controls it, and maintains throughout the play

McGowan gets his hands on it after Driver and reclutches to try and pull the ball away from Driver

both maintain control on the ground

catch...touchdown

When his left arm was 3 feet away from the ball as they came down.....would that really be considered "maintaining control"?
