Brag: Sat down to play a short session of just over 200 hands at 5/10NL while the wife was out with the boy and won $1k for a rate of 24.45 PTBB/100. This puts me pretty much at my month's goal four days into the month.

Beat: This actually lowered my earn rate for the month at 5/10NL.

Variance: I'm starting to get that creepy feeling that something BAD is going to happen at the tables any moment now. I've been on such a heater with lots of big hands and all of them holding up. I KNOW it can't last and I can FEEL that it's coming to an end soon.

Those animals should take a long look at themselves. That is very ungrateful against a guy that fed them for years.

Sounds like he continued to feed them even after his death.

Don't have the Grapher and would be too stupid/old/tech-retarded to figure out how to post a picture on here anyway, but can give the numbers:

Hands Played: 1331
Amount Won: $7,530.80
PTBB/100: 28.29

Nice. Congrats...but how are you at 5/10 so quickly? Weren't you just playing low limit MTTs a couple months ago? You must have played for a long time, but just recently built the roll?

While I'd be happy to give you the full answer if you really wanted, it's a VERY long and detailed story you probably aren't all that interested in. However, I can try to summarize it:

1. You're right that I have been playing for a while, but I got lazy and stopped working on my game. I became a bonus whore focused on making money from rakeback and reload bonuses (and some casino whoring before 9/06) rather than from playing good poker. As a result, I not only stopped improving, I went from making decent cash at the $100 tables to being break even at best. A couple of months ago I realized just how bad it had gotten and started really focusing on plugging all the leaks that had crept into my game. I started posting hands in this thread to get the feedback, spent time reviewing hand histories, really focused on taking more notes on opponents, read books, and just about anything else I could think of to get better. The results pretty much speak for themselves.

2. I am a bankroll nit. With a wife and baby at home and poker being a rather substantial portion of out household income, I've always been very conservative about the amount of money I have on the line at any given time. As a result, I've been very hesitant to move up in stakes no matter how well I've been playing. About three months ago I met a guy at Foxwoods in a STT satellite who plays a ton of live poker but had never gotten into playing much online. We not only played that STT together but ended up at the same table of an MTT later that day and talked quite a bit over the course of the two events. The guy plays mostly 5/10 and 10/25 NL at Foxwoods with some tourneys mixed in. He clearly had game and I told him there was no reason he shouldn't be playing online. I offered to help him out and get him started with the various software programs that were available. We also got into some staking deals with him putting me in some tourneys with buyins higher than I usually would pay (he was pretty confident in my game since I knocked him out of both events we played). He kind of went on a tear on Stars, turning a $2500 deposit into a $202k roll playing 5/10, 10/20 and 25/50NL in the span of about 6 weeks. In the meantime, he was giving me a lot of [censored] about being such a bankroll nit and told me I should be playing much higher levels. To thank me for helping get him started online, he shipped me about $5k on Stars to use as a bankroll to start playing 2/4 (with him assuming risk of loss but taking nothing from profits), and I realized pretty quickly after starting to play 2/4 that I was more than capable of holding my own. After about 20k hands, I was more than comfortable enough to start playing on my own roll. When I offered to send his $5k back, he told me to take it to 5/10 and start playing there.
