[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] The Red Sox definitely needed to win more tonight, because tonight's game was where the matchups were most in their favor. [/ QUOTE ] i actually think this was a pretty good matchup for the rockies on paper tonight. i don't think we are more of a favorite in game 1 with beckett than we are with dice k versus whomever in game 3 simply because francis is usually waaaayyyy better than whoever that guy is. but whatever, gg sox [/ QUOTE ] Also I disagree with this. Beckett is so much better than anyone alive righ tnow. Schilling is hittable (I am excited for this matchup, I DREADED becketts matchiP), Dice-K is definitely hittable, Beckett is a baby Jesus. [/ QUOTE ] that's all true, but Francis is also >>> any other Rockie pitcher. I think the only SP edge the Rockies will have is in game 4, and that's close. if I was a Rox fan, losing game 1 wouldn't depress me. what would depress me is watching what a patient, good hitting club does to a staff with meh stuff who spend a lot of time outside the strike zone. lots of hits fell in for us tonight, and I'm not expecting 13 runs every night, but I wouldn't be surprised to see 6 every night. |

I'm not at all familiar with Coors Field.
Would one of the Rockie's fans who is please explain some of the "Home Field" advantages that they believe the Rockies have? Some have mentioned Manny's inability to play left field. FWIW, after watching him live many times since he's come to Boston, he's nowhere near as bad as so many make him out to be. If you objectively rank him amongst all AL left fielders, he's a middle-of-the pack guy, and he happens to have playing the Monster down pat(just ask all the base-runners who have tested him over the past 3-4 years). And, yes, his occasional brain farts puzzle & sometimes infuriate me, but that has more to do with his showboating at the plate and lack of hustle running to first base. Anyhow, I'd really like someone who's familiar with Coors to give us some info on the park. Thanks...... |

After Beckett mowed down the side in the first, the first pitch that Francis threw Pedroia was an 88pmh fastball. I turned to me good friend and said..."88 mph fastballs will NOT cut it against the Sox".........Kaboom!
FWIW, It was a combination of Beckett's dominance, plus a very disciplined Sox lineup that turned the game into a route. But.......It was only one game, and I don't think the Rockies got here by laying down. Evidently Jimenez has quite a heater, but is a bit wild? Let's see how the game plays out tonight. Schilling's fastball has topped out at 90-91 the past few games, which I think makes him eminently hittable unless his location is perfect on every pitch. Watch the gun....If by the 2nd inning his fastball does not improve to 93-94, the Rockies will probably get some good licks in against him. It's supposed to be clear, but cold and gusty tonight at Fenway. We shall see........ |

The outfield is large by design to compensate for the altitude and the expected high number of home runs. |

Some have mentioned Manny's inability to play left field. [/ QUOTE ] Manny's not going to have difficulty playing left field in Coors Field. That's just hype. Yankee Stadium has a big left field and Manny doesn't have any special problems there. Coors Field: 347 ft. left, 390 ft. left-center, 415 ft. center Yankee Stadium: 318 ft. left, 399 ft. left-center, 408 ft. center Basically, Coors Field just has a deeper left field corner right at the foul pole. ![]() ![]() |
