If you don't know, it's good to pull the stove out clean off the grease and any build up, and the fridge. Throw out cardboard boxes and paper bags. All these places are where they lay their eggs. (The glue in the cardboard and paper bags is what they like).

Most of the sprays you get kill the roaches, but then more hatch from the eggs.
There are also some sprays to get to make them infertile, and others that they are suppose to carry poison with them. I'd suggest using all 3 different types at once.

In college we had what we called War of the Roaches -

We spent about a week - cleared out the kitchen and sprayed 3 different things in it, clean off everything and finally got rid of them. Blacksize is correct though - they will comeback from other apartments so after cleaning them out put out some traps and stuff.

The girls that lived above us we're a little peeved at us, they wish we had told them we we're doing it so they could do it at the same time. We killed 100s of roaches over that week, but the rest of them went right up the walls to their apartment.
