Milledge was only playing a corner because CF is going to be occupied for a long time in Shea Stadium...

Anyway, all of this a mute point because their is no way that Beane will do the proposed deal; he can get more for Harden I'm sure...If Harden goes to the Mets it will be for Heilman, Milledge AND Humber; no less.

[/ QUOTE ]

If they trade Heilman/Milledge/Humber, it will be the most absurd trade in a long time.

according to this, the Jays may be out on Meche too. If true, I can't see us being competitive with the ratcheted up Sox and status quo Yanks, which makes me wonder if a Vernon trade becomes more likely with an eye on '08.

Are the Jays dead?

[/ QUOTE ] Ummm...Kazmir for 1/3 season of Victor Zambrano?

Some teams undervalue prospects. The Mets may undervalue them the most out of anybody (their only competition comes from the Dodgers and Giants).

The A's might throw in a lesser prospect or something else relatively minor in this deal, but this is what I have heard discussed changing hands.

BTW-congrats on the Roberto Hernandez signing. 3.2 mil?

do we really need another pitcher?

Z, Hill, and Lilly are locks. Plus we have Marshall, Prior, Wood (prob relief), Miller, Cotts, and Marmol.

Um, you're talking about logic and Hendry. That said, Wood won't start and Prior can't be counted on. Also, the richer teams generally try to get six deep with starters.

If you are talking about the Cubs pursuing Meche, he is completely uneccessary. Lilly was fine because:

Wood is definitely in the pen (and should be; it's not close). Prior almost certainly won't be ready to start the year, and him and Miller are two of the most undurable players in the universe. Marshall is a decent prospect, but he had pitched in a grand total of 10 games above A ball before last season, is not ready for the big leagues as his negative VORP-which matched projections- shows, and should not have pitched a single game in the majors last season. Marmol pitched in 14 games above A ball before last season; otherwise identical to Marshall.

Cotts at least has 20 Starts at AA...

We can patch together 60 starts from this group + Ryu and Guzman (who should have recieved the starts given to Marshall/Marmol last year), even if one or two is dealt-perhaps for Ryan Church or in a package with Jones.

Also, Meche will go for 4 years, 40 million. I'd much rather see the Cubs be the "secret second team" and sign Bonds, even at 2 years, 30 mil (I doubt it takes that much). Bonds was worth about 50 runs vs. replacement level last year, and Meche was worth a little less than 20...in by far his best season in three years.

At first I thought their was no way the Cubs would even look at Bonds, but Hendry wants to add leftiness, yet claims he will accomadate Jones's trade request, and the Cubs have claimed that they care about OBP now-although all the have done is hire Perry.

White Sox trade Freddy Garcia to the Phillies for Gio Gonzalez and Gavin Floyd. A surpising small haul.

Now, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girs, absurdity loving young men...the deals you have been waiting for:

The Blue Jays will announce the signing of Fatt Stairs tomorrow. Too bad he won't get a chance to play with RBI Buffet Lee; I wanted to see them get fat together.

The Orioles are giving Paul Bako a guranteed $900,000 contract. Bako, who had a .489 OPS last season (that's right, 489 for his on base plus slugging; Carlos Zambrano has topped that every season of his career) and is well known for his good looks and dirty hair, had the following to say in response to the contract:

"I love defensive reputations, man!" (dramatization, may not have happened).

Didn't the Sox send Gonzalez to the Phils for Thome?

[/ QUOTE ] Yes; he was sent to complete the deal. The Sox wanted to re-acquire Aaron Rowand in this deal; perhaps the offical trade was Garcia for Gavin Floyd and that "that guy we gave you for Thome". Kenny had forgotten that they sent two people to the Phils in the Thome deal.

Otherwise, I can't figure this deal out. Gio is a solid pitching prospect...somewhere between 25th-50th best in the game. But Floyd had an 8 ERA last season so is a essentially a zero-and a 6 ERA in AAA in 05. With the market for SP the way it is, I can't believe this deal.

Edit: Garcia's VORP over the last three years is higher that Meche's and Lilly's over that span... COMBINED.
