Okay, I found Auburn's participation stats. I'd love to see Florida's too, but here are ours compared to ND's. I combined the Sr and 5th yr senior totals for ND since I don't have Auburn's separated.

NOTRE DAME - eight games played
Fr - 15

Sr - 68

Auburn (8 games):
Fr - 38
So - 37
Jr - 43
Sr - 58

NOTRE DAME OFFENSIVE LINE
Fr - 0

Also the overall numbers don't include special teams. Auburn's kicker and punter are both freshmen. Most of our KO returns have been by a freshman. Our punt returner is a junior, but was replaced by a freshman @ LSU. I have no idea what ND's special teams experience is, but you can't get younger than that.

So all in all, Auburn is actually less experienced by a decent margin. ND's schedule is 2nd toughest according to Sagarin. Auburn's is #3. So that excuse doesn't hold either.

As much as Bigdaddy is in denial, the sad thing is he is one of the most reasonable Domers out there, as evidenced by this article. "Rivals says he recruits well, so he is awesome!"

So many excuses, its amazing. Just a huge amount of denial, it could only be from Catholics. Oh well, you guys are going to have to learn the hard way after he brings you down so low, the only national title you can compete for is Division III.

Yeah, I really think they're reaching at straws looking at the inexperience angle. It's not that we're young, Auburn is just one of many teams who have proven that you can win with young talent, but it's that we're completely non-competitive this year, which there is no way in hell a well coached team should be. I'm not saying I want him fired yet, but if there isn't significant improvement next year, I probably will.

You can't really be a Domer, wow, a reasonable response. Even if he wins the rivals.com National Championship, you'd look for results on the field?

"I would like to see the naysayers point to another coach who, without any relevant previous head coaching or college coaching experience, lead an incredibly high-profile team to levels of comparable achievement."

How many high-profile teams HIRE coaches without any relevant head coaching or college level coaching experience? Of course no one can find anyone in such a situation that has done as well as Weis; major programs don't hire these people as head coaches.

Overall, the defense suffers the same defect as most of what we've been hearing: it tries to justify this unholy abortion of a season on almost anything other than Weis, with the ocassional "yeah but he's learning, everyone learns on the job" rif. Sure, everyone learns on the job, and everyone makes mistakes, but no one who winds up being good every does this bad. That's the point.

Basically, the ND line is that Weis just so happens to be at the center of the greatest "perfect storm" ever, and in other words is just very, very unlucky. That's possible, but Occam's Razor suggests otherwise.

I don't follow college FB too closely, but as an unbiased observer, the ND blog response just looks completely delusional. The slate article might be kind of beating a dead horse but the statistics are pretty staggering, 119th in total offense and averaging 1 yard a rush? But then again he did coach Vinny Testaverde to a division championship. Sometimes as a fan as a sports team you just have to admit that your team sucks and things probably won't get better. I mean the guy is signed on for 10 years. Once you are actually honest about things it is pretty liberating, believe me.
