Dumbedore guesses that Vold will choose 7, because it is a magical number? But Vold is not aware that Harry himself is a horcrux, right? So were there actually a total of 8? [/ QUOTE ] Yes, there were eight. |

It's amazing how many people are confused by the number of horcruxes lol [/ QUOTE ] I think this is partly because the main characters (at least in this book) never make a reference to how many additional horcruxes they need to find. I feel the need to reread parts of book six now. I wonder if anyone knows where in book six the horcruxes are discussed. |

The chapter after Harry gets Slughorns memory and talks about it with DD too for sure. |

Maybe he doesn't technically count as a horcrux, so you're right that there were seven. So Voldemort intended to make his seventh with Harry, but "failed" (even though he really succeeded). Then made his 8th (Nagini) with Bertha Jorkins in Book IV (that happened "off camera"). |

I feel the need to reread parts of book six now. I wonder if anyone knows where in book six the horcruxes are discussed. [/ QUOTE ] I think if you wanted to quickly catch up on all the books before reading the seventh, you would do fine to just read the "Dumbledore chapter" in books 1-5 (always towards the end, where DD explains everything) then read all the Dumbledore parts after Harry gets to school in Book 6, especially the one after Slughorn's memory. That'd probably recap the whole series in about an hour and get someone up to speed who had read them before. Or you could be a Massive Potter Dork like me (and I know I'm not the only one here) and go back and read all of them before any new book comes out. |

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows discussion thread (SPOILERS)
I feel that the movies 1-3 do a good job representing the book and that books 1-3 are more "childish", so I would prefer to simply watch those movies. However, I feel JK really hit her stride in books 4-7 and the movies do not do them justice. I wish WB would make each movie two parts and release them semi annually but money wise it would be dumb.
