zeebo,

The issue is that with most jobs people ask question, with poker many many people think THEY have the system and they have it figured otu etc. etc. etc.

Also, if people ask just tell them and say "you?"

My retired father was sitting around watching daytime soaps the other day with my sisters. There was a 5-card draw poker game going on the soap, and these guys were pulling crisp $100 bills out of there pockets and throwing them into the pot and then one guy reaches into his jacket and splashes his car keys on the table. It was pretty absurd and (big mistake), I commented on it, "That's pretty stupid poker right there."

Of course my geriatric father: "Huh.. That's REAL Poker right there, not that bull$hit you learned off TV. You don't know what real poker is"... and proceeded to try to pick a fight with me as he usually does. A$$hole.

People can definitely be idiots, when you tell them you play online poker for a living and they say something like "NO WAI, GAMBOOL 4 A LIVIN??"

But a lot of people nowadays are familiar with the game and know that there is a good amount of skill involved, and think its cool when they hear you've made a lot of money doing it. In my experience these people are the ones that know absolutely nothing about gambling, and just reason that if you make a living doing it, there must be a certain level of consistency in the money you make.

The others, who have been exposed to degen blackjack/craps/roullette losses are more prone to go on about addictive gambling, losing the house, etc.

uh thats actually how it used to be. instead of betting money and paychecks gamblers would bet their property, which would usually be a farm, thus spawning a retarded phrase that doesnt have anything to do with table stakes.

Yea, and it's incredibly stupid to be able to reach into your pocket and throw the deed to your house on the table when the other person can't call.

That kind of poker is mindless stupidity.

Read "Education of a Poker Player". Its very old and the stories in it are worth the price alone for reading how poker games used to happen.

One of the best Xmas presents ive ever got, and it was a free gift from Ladbrokes Poker.
