Re: 2007 AL Central -- Last Place CHW
[ QUOTE ]
Well, us Twins fans have seen the writing on the wall for most of the year. After getting swept by the Blue Jays, we can stick a fork in our beloved team. We just don't have "it" this year. That "it" that we had in our division winner years. Hopefully, we become sellers this week. Bye Mr Hunter. Adios Luis Castillo. [/ QUOTE ] I think "it" would be anyone but Punto at 3rd base, and never playing Ford or Tyner, but I digress. Season ended today in the 6th inning if it wasnt already over last week after getting swept by Los Tigres. |

Miller hurt again, damnit. Will Carroll reports that he might turn into a full-time reliever instead of the starting pitcher that we really need.

[/ QUOTE ] The way his career has gone so far, it might not be the worst thing in the world for us to Papelbon him into a relief ace. Obviously, I hope he can continue to start games and turn into a balla ace, but it's not looking so good at this point after all the injuries he's had. |

True. We do lack a dependable reliever that can become the closer after Borowski is gone (for some reason they don't trust Betancourt), so that might not be so terrible.

[/ QUOTE ] I'd actually rather not have him as the full time closer...I'm a big believer in a "relief ace" who pitches in high-leverage situations (whenever that may be). Between Miller, Betancourt, Perez, and Mujica, we would have a pretty spectacular middle relief core, and then we could just sign a random solid, unspectacular closer (like JoeBo) every single year to rack up "saves" for $4 million. Plus, if we do that, the random closer racks up 35-40 saves, signs somewhere else in free agency, and nets us two more high draft picks. This keeps our younger, better relievers cheap through arbitration because they aren't racking up the almighty "saves" each year. |

Re: 2007 AL Central -- Last Place CHW
Converting closers is a well-known strategy, but Borowski is far too old to be trying that as the project. Of course, I won't be sad to see him go, especially if it nets us compensation picks due to free agency.
I also believe in high-leverage relievers, but a lot of the times the high leverage is in the ninth. :P |

Re: 2007 AL Central -- Last Place CHW
Too late, the series is over. However, we did take 3 of 4, so we have that going for us.
Most of the White Sox news is regarding who we're going to sell. Right now, Kenny is asking for more than people are willing to part with. Article |
