Xhad, you only slowplay when the pot is small.

Doncha know the rulz?

I don't think the rules (lol) were created to take into account the possibility that you get HU with someone who only has 1BB left.

Wow. I'm in total shock.

Brag: I'm going to be on my dept's training grant next year. This supports 5 students each year, and I was chosen from a pool of 10 applicants in my dept. I got this award in spite of (a) having zero publications, (b) having zero pending publications, or really, having anything remotely close to publication, (c) nearly failing the student seminar course due to just barely attending enough, (d) the fact that more than one person on the decision committee thinks I'm a total flake, and (e) turning in my application two days late (this did not help (d), either). I honestly applied for this strictly to make my prof happy so that I could tell him, "Well, at least I tried," after I my application was rejected in disgust.

Beat: I'm now on the hook for extra courses next year. I've got to take them as a requirement for winning.

Variance: This award earns me exactly zero extra dollars. Instead, it just continues to cover my usual salary for the year. This grant pays my salary instead of my prof, so essentially it's an award to HIM in the amount of my annual salary.

congrats, I think. Obv your professor > professors of at least 5 other applicants

I have no idea how this sort of grants thing works but it seems to me that you saved him monies so he 'owes you' in the form of fringe benefits that result from freeing up a portion of his salary budget. Wookie please exploit FTW. zing.
