Wow. sounds like Billy Beane had a meltdown and needed some heads to roll. I guess I don't care that much one way or the other. Sure was disappointed with the attitude of Eric Chavez during the Detroit series so maybe a new manager will change that.

was reading in the chronicle today that players were tired of him, and that he'd been ignoring a bunch of them.

It has been clear that Macha is on shaky ground, despite taking the team to the American League Championship Series and despite having two years remaining on his contract. The primary reasons: Macha's problems communicating with players, along with what injured players have described as a callous attitude toward them.

Toward the end of the season, one member of the starting lineup was openly critical of Macha in the clubhouse. By the final weekend of the regular season, another prominent member of the team had joined in the criticism. Several players went so far as to take their complaints to Beane, telling him they did not want to return to the club if Macha remained as manager, according to sources.

It amuses me what a non-story firing Macha is. I can't work up an opinion.

Success is clearly not as important as egos.

The A's did manage to finally win their first playoff series since 1990. But, Macha's four year stint as manager also included missing the playoffs in 2004 and 2005. That was after winning the AL West three of the four previous seaons and having a 102 win wild card seaons in 2001. So, Macha's record has successes and failures.

If Macha is genuinely having communication pproblems with the players, this was probably the right decision.
