Re: OT: [censored] thread, September, READ RULES IN TOP POST
Yeah but as someone who has been smoking for 15 years now I'd estimate I've smoked 110,000 cigs (holy [censored]). I doubt even Bob Marley has smoked 10% of that number in joints.

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Anyone here investment savvy? I've visited the finance forum but I'm not comfortable there and really don't know crap about investments. Any help? [/ QUOTE ] Assuming long-term, easiest answer is an index fund, which is basically a mutual fund that buys all the stocks in an index, like the S&P 500. Low management fee, will prob. get you a high-single-digit return over time. Slightly more in-depth answer is that greater risk gives greater return over the long haul. If you're looking to put it away for a long time and won't get affected by the swings, look for a more aggressive fund that focuses on small-cap stocks or emerging markets. Again, though, if you don't really want to get into it and just want decent return, an index fund is about as good as it gets. Beat: MBA I don't use anymore. [/ QUOTE ] search the finance forum for old posts asking the same question. basically you want index funds like the venetian said. first open up an account at vanguard. here is my breakdown: Vanguard Value Index Fund Investor Shares Vanguard Small-Cap Index Fund Investor Shares Vanguard Pacific Stock Index Fund Investor Shares Vanguard European Stock Index Fund Investor Shares Vanguard 500 Index Fund Investor Shares online money market its not perfect and i still want to add a few more (emerging markets) but all my liquid is stuck in Pstars right now. but hopefully that gives you a good idea. and the percentages in each depends on your age and your risk level. i dont have my percentages right now but mine is basically the average risk option for a 22 year old [/ QUOTE ] Thanks guys. What about just giving money to Edwards Jones and having him put it into mutual funds. Obviously much easier but is the return as good and are the fees worth it? |

darin,
I read a lot of stuff on www.fundadvice.com when I started investing. I think it's generally a good site and it has some "recommended portfolios" that will give you some diversification ideas based on how much money you have to invest. |

Obviously much easier but is the return as good and are the fees worth it? [/ QUOTE ] Look at the 5 and 10 year performance history of the funds in question. If they're not beating the indices by a reasonable percentage, then the fees are not worth it. There is nothing easier than investing in Index funds and it really doesn't matter what broker you purchase them from so choose the broker with the lowest fees. If these are long term retirement investments make sure they're tax sheltered if you qualify. (Roth IRA or 401K if you have access.) |

I don't smoke.
Most of the studies done about smoking have been exxagerated, however as Josem said inhaling all that crap into your lungs can't be good for you. A joint is much worse than a cigarette, except people don't smoke "packs" of joints a today. |

Re: OT: [censored] thread, September, READ RULES IN TOP POST
Second hand smoke is a joke. Its so exaggerated. Like obviously not inhaling second hand smoke>>>>>>>> inhaling second hand smoke but for the most part second hand smoke doesn't cause any real damage.
