Vyse,
Doesn't really work that well because of the NYY infield they have had three years together. Cano was raw in 2005, A-Rod underachieved in 2006, Giambi was injured in 2007. Of course we have no idea what will happen to they hypothetical Phillies infield, but ignoring A-Rod 2006 Yankees are pretty close to 2007 Phillies, of course factoring in defense that gap becomes bigger.

[ QUOTE ]

i truly believe that Arod will want to play somewhere where he can hit alot of homeruns, thus avoiding LA and SF...

[/ QUOTE ]

Dodger Stadium has usually been an above average home run park.

And he didn't mind playing in Yankee Stadium, which was hell on right handed home run hitters until ....

[ QUOTE ]

Rodriguez established the franchise record for most home runs in a single season by a right-handed batter (broke Joe DiMaggio's mark of 46 in 1937). His 47 HR from the third base position are a single-season American League record. Alex hit 26 home runs at Yankee Stadium in 2005, establishing the single-season club record for right-handed batters.

[/ QUOTE ]

The previous club record was 19 and held by DiMaggio in 1937 and Gary Sheffield in 2004. A-Rod hit 17, 26, 20, and 26 Yankee stadium home runs in his four years as a Yankee, beating the old mark almost every single year.

but it's been since 03 that giambi has even played 140 games. and he's only done that twice. utley was better than cano in 07 and will be better for the rest of the universe because he's like a top 5 player, rollins has been mostly better than jeter for a while, a-rod's obv a wash. giambi can beat howard via OBP but only if he plays in all the games.

Howard: rapes Giambi's 120 GP
Rollins: > than Jeter
Utley: Rapes Cano and rapes all of life, really
A-Rod: even I guess

Don't see how it' sclose

[/ QUOTE ]
I really don't think you can take JRoll over Jeter although since we are comparing the theoretical 2008 Phillies infield its possible he'll be even better next year

Also Giambi was never the every day 1B. He never played more than half a season at 1B the last three years.

A-Rod opted out of his contract in the most classless way possible. You do not opt out while there is still baseball being played and you definitely don't do it over text messages. A-Rod's approach shows that he really doesn't give a damn about being a Yankee. So why should the ownership force him to be one? Hats off to the idiot son for actually doing something right and telling him to [censored] off. Now they can use the money that they'd have for A-Rod and get two or even three quality players instead.

Vyse,
The premise was that the hypothetical Phillies would be the best IF ever. Not that the current Yankees SS+2B+1B is better.

From Bob DiCesare courtesy of FJM:
[ QUOTE ]

Fact is, the Yankees are in far greater need of a Scott Brosius, a Bernie Williams, a Paul O’Neill than an uninspired (and uninspiring) A-Rod.

[/ QUOTE ]
Yup. I completely agree.

For what it's worth, the statement from 'the idiot son' included the words "If its official". Subtracted from its conviction.
