hey, how bad do you guys think it is that ESPN is calling App St. D 1-AA. I am justbeing nitty thinking that it's a pretty big deal?

FCS/I-AA. It's all the same. Actually I think the NCAA recently gave the major media outlets permission to continue using the I-AA for this season. As most people don't know the NCAA changed the names of the Division I subdivisions.

If you want to lay blame I would direct it to the NCAA for getting the word out about the name change in the poorest way possible.

In an effort to make the schools formerly known as I-AA feel less like second-class institutions, the NCAA has divided Division I football into the Football Bowl Subdivision (I-A, which uses bowl games as its postseason) and the Football Championship Subdivision (I-AA, which uses a playoff and actually crowns an NCAA champion in the postseason).

So when Louisville beats Murray State by about 40 Thursday night, remember the Cardinals aren’t playing a I-AA team, they’re playing an FCS team.

Same goes for Ohio State vs. Youngstown State; Michigan vs. Appalachian State (the defending FCS champ); Florida vs. Western Kentucky; Texas A&M vs. Montana State; and Boise State vs. Weber State.

Didn't they change 1-AA to "Division 1" or something entirely to confusing?

EDIT: Ok "FCS"...I'm a huge college football fan, and i'm going to continue to call the D-1aa, as will 95 percent of people, anyone who gets irked by that is an extreme nit.

I don't get what you're trying to say. Isn't App St. D 1-AA?

[/ QUOTE ]

Technically no. The NCAA changed the names of the Division I subdivisions. I-A is now Division I Bowl Championship Subdivision (BCS). I-AA is now Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The NCAA didn't really bother getting the word out. Hence the mass confusion. I can't blame the media outlets nor fans or random people in general for continuing to use the I-A and I-AA labels.

What sucks is like 110 DI schools last year played I-AA teams and Michigan wasn't one of them.

Then this year we actually improve our strength of schedule by picking up ASU instead of Vanderbilt.

Sigh.
