He might have actually been good in the minor-leagues.
I used to do pretty well based on my knowledge of somebody's pre-big league background as the line can get quite favorable for the "guy most people have never heard of." |

I'm trying to find where that 20% sports-betting bonus is.
They might not offer this anymore. In that case you'll have to take the 20% only on one site. Moreover, one way to minimize the rollover is to try to "bust out" from the site where you take the bonus. For example suppose you take 20% bonus at site A for $200. Bet all of it on a long shot and hedge it with WSEX and you bet $1000. Most of the time your long shot will lose and you will not have to bet 5 times your deposit at sporstbook A. Assuming that you found a good breakeven line then 80% of the time you will make $40. 20% of the time you will have to wager 5 times $240. Even if you can't find breakeven lines it's easy to see that this is still +EV. Make sure you use a reputable sports book forum FAQ for this and how to find good lines. |

[ QUOTE ] the net profit on a $10 sports bet is $0.454 based on -110 juice, so it's not going to make or break the rakefree poker structure. just play poker if that's what you normally do. [/ QUOTE ] thats not the point. [/ QUOTE ] It is exactly the point. Making a small bet here and there isn't going to make WSEX think "omg this rake free poker thing is totally working!" It's like the people who clear a casino bonus with a WR of $10,000 and then make $50 in let it ride "cover" bets. It's incredibly transparent, and even if it isn't to them for some strange reason, it isn't making them much money so it won't impact whether or not they keep rake-free poker. |

Bet against the White Sox. They will not be nearly as lucky/good as they were last year.
Okay, you caught me, I'm a Cubs fan. |

[ QUOTE ] How is it +EV? [/ QUOTE ] the EV you lose on sports is MUCH less than what you are gaining by not paying rake. [/ QUOTE ] Depends entirely on what they move the rake to and how much you're betting. All these folks excited about zero rakeback...then turn around and play -EV to get the site some effective rake. Huh? Just email and ask for a tiny rake then. |

OP is exactly right. (I raised this point in a larger thread.) They explicitly tell you what they expect from the promotion, increased revenue in sports book and casino. IF you want the promotion to continue, show them they where right. If you play poker, just play poker? Idiot. You apparently can't see the big picture. Let them figure it out? They did, and they explained it to you. Do you ruin everything you touch? [/ QUOTE ] I love how you're calling him an idiot when you apparently don't even understand his point. He is saying that a small sports bet here and there will have little to no impact on their bottom line. A $10 sports bet makes them 45 cents. You'd better start betting thousands of dollars if you want them to see a difference. |

I think it could have SOME impact.
If every single one of the new poker-players they bring in make absolutely NO sports-bets at all then they'll think, "Well...that didn't work. Bunch of damn poker-whores who are just there to take our money." If even 20% of the poker-players they attract make occasional sports-bets...and if just a handful of these players actually bet fairly large...then they DO have reason to say that the rake-free promotion actually IS bringing in SOME additional sports-betting. And then there are the fishier/squarer poker/sportsbetting types who currently donate a lot on Bodog or Paradise or Ladbrokes or some other poker/sports combination and obviously WSEX would love for some of those types to transfer over. But it all adds up. 20% of new poker-players also betting sports is a whole lot better than 5%. And for all of those small-time $10 bettors they bring in they would still harbor hopes that they can be 'converted' into bigger gamblers. Why does Pinnacle and other sites offer $1 minimums on their sports-bets? not much profit to be had there. They are just hoping that some of those cheap-skate bettors eventually move up to something significant. |
