This isn't real poker, it's online poker. [/ QUOTE ] But the prize money IS real money, not "online" money. Why wouldn't you want online poker to become more like "real poker"? |

Because it's an absurd idea? You want people to be forced to put out their real names when they play over the internet? You don't even have to tell people your name in a casino, so I don't quite get how this will make it more like real poker.

[/ QUOTE ] Um, you have to give your real name at WSOP events with proof of identity. Moreorever, it isn't like you can be playing two or more seats at the same time. |

Having people use their real names is not going to stop multi-accounting. They are not making up fake SSN's and names, they are using their roomates/family/friends names. Besides that, having your real name out there is not exactly safe, you realize how many death threats (from bad beats or obnoxious table chat) that there would be if you knew someone's real name? Not hard to find where they live once you have their name.

True, and I think you are right in that displaying real names is not necessary or helpful. |

[ QUOTE ] You don't even have to tell people your name in a casino [/ QUOTE ] I thought we were talking about tournament poker, and you know that this is not true in professional tournaments [/ QUOTE ] jesus, you DO have to register with your real name on online poker sites technically speaking. You do the same in B&M tournaments. You do not need to tell people who you are at a table, online or in real life. Honestly, the concept of totally removing the anonymity behind online poker is pretty ridiculous, and you may as well wait until pigs fly. |
