Default Re: Does PokerSuperstars 3 Debut TONIGHT ???

More info I was able to find:

Buy-in was $50k.
The prelim matches last about 90 minutes each.
There will be 36 episodes this season.
Unlike PSI2, players don't have to play at least one match against every other player. Daniel Negreanu wrote that he plays Phil Ivey in 3 of his 5 prelim matches, while never against Johnny Chan or Phil Hellmuth in any of the 5.

I found 22 of the 24 entrants:
Daniel Negreanu
Chris Moneymaker
Ted Forrest
Greg Raymer
Erick Lindgren
Cyndy Violette
Jennifer Harman
Gus Hansen
Phil Ivey
Mike Matusow
Antonio Esfandiari
Chris Ferguson
Mimi Tran
Mike Sexton
Barry Greentstein
Todd Brunson
Joe Hachem
Phil Hellmuth
Jennifer Tilly
Carlos Mortensen
Johnny Chan
Mike Caro

I couldn't find anything that said Doyle Brunson was in this season, but if he is, then that just leaves one mystery entrant.

Please, please don't let it be Kathy Liebert...

You've got 21 right. Mike Caro did not play. You missed Eli Elezra, Freddy Deeb, and Jeff Shulman. Together the 24 had 8 World Championnships, 54 World Series Bracelets, and 12 WPT titles between them at the time of the filming in November.

Filming was done over a 7 day period, with the 8th day reserved for the Poker Superstars Invitational Championship featuring the top 8 players in the tournament vying for $500,000 winner-take-all prize which will be seen next Super Bowl Sunday.

A couple of things I like about the show:

-It was nice having the interviewer there instead of the players just talking into a camera after they got eliminated. They only did it for 3 players (Hachem, Tilly and Esfandiari) but I'm guessing the others were cut out because of time constraints.

-The railbirding. Nice to see a smidget of an audience there. Would like to see a full audience to make it more lively but I understand they don't want to do that so they can protect the results from getting out.

-Howard Lederer replacing Michael Konik is an improvement, though I didn't mind Konik that much.

-The new players. I like having the past 3 world champions in there, wonder if we will get a match where they'll all play against each other. Also having Negreanu, Lindgren, Ivey, Ferguson, Hellmuth and Matusow in will prove to be some good/entertaining poker.

A few things I don't like about the show/format:

-Going from 24 to 20 regular season matches. I think it's better when everyone plays everyone else. Also how is it possible to have 20 matches and have everyone play the same number of matches?

-No Sklansky this time, though we have 2p2 representation with Raymer.

My first thought was that the numbers wouldn't work out, but they do.

24 players x 5 matches each = 120 entries
120 entries / 6 entries per match = 20 episodes

I also thought it was better with everybody getting to play everybody else at least once. Negreanu wrote that he plays Phil Ivey in 3 out of his 5 prelim matches, but never plays some people like Chan or Hellmuth.

i just have no real interest in PSIII, the 4 billion prelim matches from PSII was an interesting idea gone boring.

Is this a weekly series that will run every Sunday night? Or do new episodes run more often? If it is once a week, this will run for almost an entire year, won't it?

Last year's broadcasts were one a week from March through November. It looks like it will be about the same this year.

Todd took the first match, then Johnny got run over by the deck (of the shown hands) to take the last two matches and the title.
