if u go straight ahead forever, where would u end? is there a wall? will u end at the plac u started.

this is the only answer i wanna know.

[/ QUOTE ]

Let me put it to you this way. The earth is not infinite. Yet, if you took a plane and went straight ahead forever, you would never hit the "end of the earth."

Space is neat.

I love watching the first minute of Contact.
At the risk of sounding cliché, and whether astronomically accurate or not, it still makes me feel terribly small.

(For those that don't know it, it's a gradual zoom out from earth, through the solar system, galaxy and beyond.)

[/ QUOTE ]
Love that scene. There is also sound which gradually trails off to silence. You could hear annoying 14 year olds talking, 42 cell phones ringing, and babies crying when I saw it in the movie theater. Very cool.

Don't some (many? most?) scientists think the universe as we know it is curved? Basically you will never reach the end, as it's one big sphere or whatever. Of course if that's the case then what is outside that giant sphere?

Swede

[/ QUOTE ]

There is no "outside the giant sphere." Its not that there's nothing there either, the concept you are trying ot describe simply does not exist.

This is an interesting discussion that belongs in SMP. Unless this is begging the question, "How many 5 year olds could God take?"

Its a good question. Even assuming that god is infinite, given an infinite number of five year olds in the finite space of the gym...

If you go up you will break the atmosphere.
The universe is ever expanding.. no one knows for sure if it will continue, stop or collapse. Because it is continually expanding if you were ever to reach the end of the universe which means go faster than it is expanding and break through it you would reach nothingness. The universe ceases to exist at this point and so do you.

With all due respect, you cannot say this with any level of certainty.

This picture makes discussing optimal strategy for AKs in the small blind seem rather meaningless.

I agree. However, I find it funny that you pick out that in particular as what I just said was filled with many assumptions. Nothing is certain or known in this universe that's why we must assume and theorize to come to greater understandings.
