Re: The Big Ten Network
[ QUOTE ]
2) the BigTenNetwork has stuck with 11AM CST starts for most of its games even when broadcasting multiple games in a day 11AM sucks for stadium environment, tail-gating, student lifestyles, etc The Big11Ten was traditionally a 1PM local start with moves for tv. Ridiculous that the conference's own network leads to such crappy starting times. [/ QUOTE ] It just occurred to me that its probably part of the Big 10's contract with ABC that they not schedule games that conflict with the national 3:30 and 8PM games. |

Re: The Big Ten Network
Look for there to be more fallout as other conferences think about following the Big11Ten's lead. The MWC has its own channel now (The Mountain) and the satellites are not biting on that one (I am hearing commercials in town begging you to call your satellite company to tell them to pick it up.... um no thanks). To me it's going to be interesting to see what the conference channels do with the March to September timeframe. That's half a year of most likely junk.

Re: The Big Ten Network
I believe UM and App State (thankfully), Minnesota, Northwestern, and Purdue have all been on the BTN. I might be missing one too. It's [censored] ridiculous and it's only going to get worse during basketball season. Michigan State students will probably just riot if they can't watch certain away games on TV.

Re: The Big Ten Network
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Go to bar and watch it and quit crying. [/ QUOTE ] I'm not crying over a missed football game, trust me. I think my point was about the fans who either don't want to go to a bar or don't care enough to change cable networks, or pay extra. These people have to make up a sizeable percentage of college football watchers. Not necessarily anyone hanging out in this forum, but quite a few I suspect. [/ QUOTE ] be tougher to find anyone who cares more about college football than me and the BigTen lost a significant amount of my viewership by moving those games 1) I live in an apartment---cannot put up my own dish 2) I gambool all day---don't feel comfortable doing that in a bar 3) I already spend half of Sunday in a bar to watch the NFL 4) I usually watch 3-4 games at the same time, which means i would have to show up early to the bar to get the good seat location, be a *good* customer so that I get my TV wishes, and argue with the local fans who want their team on all 6 widescreens in front of us and are offended if one or two are on other games. The BigTenNetwork is really shady....if they just cared about the sports and conference, they would have a pay-for-web feed I'd gladly pay for that as I've done with mlb.tv and ESPN Gameplan Instead, this is a bigten v cable argument with both sides overplaying their hands I really hope the BTN fails miserably if they succeed, every conference will go this direction and that will not be good |

Re: The Big Ten Network
Yeah, keep in mind, this was a down year for the Big Ten so it wasn't a huge deal. But next year if the Big Ten returns to a level of prominence? This 1 vs 21 matchup being on BTN is inexcusable, but AFAIK it's the only ranked vs. ranked matchup they've had so far. Next year that might not be true. [censored], just make this game in Madison and they've have to call out the National Guard in Columbus.

Re: The Big Ten Network
[ QUOTE ]
Sorry if you have talked about this before, I don't normally post in this forum. I searched and found nothing. Has anyone missed a good college football game because their cable network doesn't have the big ten network? Wisconsin fans are going to miss the UW/OSU game this weekend. And the UW coach sounds surprisingly nonchalant that the usually supportive fan base is getting screwed: http://uwbadgers.com/video/default.aspx?mid=1326 I'm not calling anyone to request the Big Ten Network. In fact I feel like calling my cable company and telling them I will drop cable if they raise my prices to include it. And I like college football, but I wonder if the Big Ten Network is overestimating the amount of people who will pay extra to see it. Thoughts? Your experiences? [/ QUOTE ] i hate the big ten network. in ohio we don't get to see the game either. absolutely ridiculous |

So, tOSU has v Wisky, v Illinois, and @ Michigan left. V Wisky was ruled the least appealing of the three and moved to BTN. Great foresight by the networks....glad that we got tOSU-Minny or tOSU-N'western on the ABC/ESPN family instead |

Re: The Big Ten Network
I love BTN. Living outside of the midwest, I can now see much more of the games that I actually care about (Michigan, Wisconsin). Granted, Michigan is on nationally quite a bit anyway, but I also get to see Wisconsin and any other good Big Ten matchups that I'd rather see than Colorado, Colorado state, or Air Force.

Hopefully that will push Comcast and the network back to the bargaining table. For those of you in Big Ten regions, is Comcast running a bunch of ads putting down the BTN? I think they've been putting a ton of money into an anti-BTN ad campaign in PA. |

Re: The Big Ten Network
If Charter would carry the BTN, I'd actually think about subscribing.
Since they don't, I'll continue to enjoy not spending $70 per month for 70 channels I never watch and listen to the games on the radio. It's not the same but it'll do. |
