Anyone who says kickers aren't all that important has never rooted for a team without a kicker. It's incredibly frustrating to have your team with a 4th and 3 on the 30 and honestly not know if they should kick or go for it.

Is there any research on angling punts and coffin corner attempts? I figure a good coffin corner punter must add something to a team.

Until Hester started burning people, no one had used the coffin corner punt in years.

Jeff Feagles says hi.

Heh, several times last Sunday I was saying to myself 'Jesus can Feagles punt to a corner well. Can anyone else do it well/consistantly?

Ah the bias of a sports fan. Once you've got it in your mind that your kicker sucks, he misses "all the important ones." Once you know your K is captain clutch, he always comes through.

How many kickers are consistent year to year from 40-49 yards?

If you find any of these guys, it's probably the ones who can kick the [censored] out of the ball.

vhawk, wtf? I didn't even mention accuracy once. Many colleges are stuck with kickers who just don't have the leg to kick 45+ yd FGs. So when attempts get in that range, coaches have a real dilemma on whether to try or not. Just like in the article, it's about leg strength, not accuracy. Put your itchy "Post" finger on ice for a while.

RDH,

Only one other person had mentioned college in the thread, so by not specifying college you confused vhawk and me.

What are the reasons the basic findings don't also apply to college?

I don't really mind if QBs only got a reasonable maximum of 5-6 points a game like a defensive player would, but when QBs rattle off 5 TDs in a game and end up with like 45 points that decides a head-to-head matchup, it's just silly.

Think about it.
