fwiw, ive been 3betting him a bunch when i was in position. pretty infrequently oop.

Your opponents, even very good ones, aren't 1/4th as aware about this as you are. You have to 3bet preflop here.

Flop is okay.

really? like 100% of the time? why?

i can think of a couple reasons that argue for calling here, though i do mostly 3bet it.

[/ QUOTE ]

I actually thought he was in the CO, but still, I think a 3bet is best vs. a good LAG.

This isn't a spot where you need to mix up your play with JJ. If you want to call in the name of mixing up your play or strength concealing deception, I think those are bad reasons.

If your opponent is opening very tight, or is only calling/playing back at your 3bets with monsters, that is a good reason to flat call.

Were your reasons different than these?

[/ QUOTE ]

its mostly the second reason. against an opponent who rarely flatcalls and 4bets a range such that we're not particularly excited to stack off with JJ calling is better.

also, calling is good for your ranges in particular postflop situations. the one that immediately comes to mind is that by flatcalling some big pairs from the blinds you can increase the frequency with which you have a very strong hand when you checkraise ragged flops.
