Re: OT: I\'m a poker pro
[ QUOTE ]
By the way, I've been talking to lacky on AIM now for a while but if anyone else has any wisdom about going pro they'd like to share, I'm all ears. [/ QUOTE ] Drink alot of red bull and god speed. Try to get into a routine where at certain hours of the day you have to play poker. Putting in the hours for poker is probably the hardest thing to do at least for me. Most important skill you need to learn is the ability to pee in a bottle unless you really baller you can get a toilet built into your computer chair. |

Re: OT: I\'m a poker pro
Been pro for just over a year, and I'm rubbish at it: just means I get lots of learning experiences! Some points which are important to me:
a. Earning is now much more important than fun. Even though I enjoy STTs and MTTs, my real income comes from cash, so, I have a working bankroll for cash, and anything I spend on trny's comes out of my spending money, not my bankroll - I still make 120%+ ROI on MTTs, but the hourly rate is less than cash, so I hardly ever play them. Discipline really counts now; income comes from getting in the hands, my mistakes in the past have been setting $ targets, meeting them, then taking the rest of the day off, or playing just a little bit more to make that extra $1 to hit the target, when I'm too tired. Alcohol and work don't mix - ever! BRM takes on new meaning - uber nitty is the only way to go. Days off are critical - don't play every day. Tilt is more important: recognise it and stop playing. Move up levels with at least 25% of the recommended bankroll to lose eg if you need 30bi for a level, move up with 38 bi for the new level. If you run bad, and have to drop down, you're not just making up a roll, you are losing a week of earning the money you now have to cash out. Good luck, love it, no doubt that you will do well, Joss |

Re: OT: I\'m a poker pro
I obviously agree on the being nitty with BR MGMT thing. I also recommend trying to keep a sort of set time when you go to bed and wake up. I still get up from an alarm clock at the same time every day. However, I'm really, really bad at the whole getting to bed thing on time. Oh well, I rarely feel tired when I'm playing if I have caffeine in me. As far as keeping a regular playing schedule, I don't think it's important as long as you put in the hours. I mean, the flexible scheduling is a great benefit of being a pro so why not take advantage of it? If there's something you want to do when at a time you normally play poker then do it. Just make up the hours later.
I think exercise is good but I haven't done much lately. |
