You can well imagine that turning to Stars and FTP he finds he can't even beat the $200's games any more and is just above breakeven in the $100's. Also his RB is now stuck at 30% or below as opposed to 50% before.

He might struggle to make $40/hr now even if his ego lets him move down. If it doesn't he will bust.

And lets not forget 3 years ago when someone made 100K in a year 8 tabling that worked out to 140K Canadian with the exchange rate.

I assume you're joking. If you're not, you must not be Canadian, or be one of the few who totally ignores exchange rates.

The US dollar was over 50% more than the Canadian dollar from October 2000 until February 2003. Much of that time was signifcantly over, including a brief stretch in early 2002 went it was over 60% higher. It was only four years ago that it dropped below 40, and that seemed great at the time.

There are sites that do not allow the US players and they are tight, e.g. Party Poker. There are also loose sites that do not allow the US players but they have always been looser because of the poorer software, higher rake and maybe casino or sportsbook players, so one can't know, other than it doesn't take an US site to have the tighter games that exist today. It looking more like there are more educated players these days, and the sites that are still looser has a special reason to be so, like having lots of south european players that do not have enough poker books translated at this time.

Everyone is not in the same boat. A professional gambler could have a certain allocation for online poker. He may also have a certain value he places on his time. He may find it worth while to attempt to beat a level that could wipe out his bankroll rather than move down to a level that will not pay him what he feels his time is worth. When the funds he allocates are exhausted, he moves on to something else rather than accepting working for a lower wage. It makes perfect sense.

If I ever find myself unable to beat the levels I play I do not intend to move down. I will set a loss limit and quit.
