Yeah I think the fold is fine, but it's close. The more competent I think he is the more I like a fold. I'd call against the more donkish party players though who could have AJ here and play this identically, or random diamonds. Maybe 89 turning itself into a bluff.

at first i said fold, but i really like a call now after i thought about it. your hand could easily be some sorta combo draw/counterfeited 2 pair and after you check turn your hand is underepped so id call river. sure he may have it but i think he prob is bluffing more than you think (valuebettin worse prob too)

because that's what bad players do when they get to the river and realize they did a [censored] job building a pot. they just pot it. to them, it feels like the most amount of money they can bet before it starts looking suspicious. not saying it can't be a bluff. but i definitely get shown the nuts a lot when an opponent who usually bets normally starts potting it
