Default Re: IGREA now has 31 cosponsors

[ QUOTE ]
I received a letter back from Rep. Walz from the 1st district in Minnesota, and he mentioned in his letter that he was not aware of any legislation that would repeal HR 4411. I sent him another letter detailing IGREA and asked him to speak with Rep. Frank directly (and of course to cosponsor). Will post if I hear anything back.

[/ QUOTE ]

He may have gotten confused because HR 4411 was changed to the UIGEA when it got to the Senate. Don't call it HR 4411, call it the UIGEA.

IGREA has three new cosponsors, for a total of 34!

Reps. Joe Baca [D-CA], voted against HR 4411
Lynn C. Woolsey [D-CA], voted against HR 4411
Neil Abercrombie [D-HI], voted against HR 4411

Please remember to call the congressmen in the OP. We need a few more.

I hear from reputable sources that Barney Frank needs 50 IGREA cosponsors before he'll bring it to the floor. He has 35 so far. The following representatives may be likely to join us, so let's try to get a quick call or letter to them, especially if you reside in their district. Thanks.

Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), 202.225.2906, opposed HR 4411
Dennis Moore (D-KS), 202.225.2865, cosponsoring Berkley's study bill
Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), 202.225.7944, cosponsoring Berkley's study bill
Paul Kanjorski (D-PA), 202.225.6511
Jay Inslee (D-WA), 202.225.6311, opposed HR 4411
Paul Hodes (D-NH), 202.225.5206
Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), 202.225.2435, opposed HR 4411
Al Green (D-TX), 202.225.7508, cosponsoring Berkley's study bill
David Dreier (R-CA), 202.225.2305, opposed HR 4411
John Campbell (R-CA), 202.225.5611
Tim Walz (D-MN), 202.225.2472
Pete Stark (D-CA), 202.225.5065, cosponsoring Berkley's study bill
Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD)), 202.225.3061, cosponsoring Berkley's study bill
Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), 202.225.2415, opposed HR 4411
Jon Porter (D-NV), 202.225.3252, opposed HR 4411

Additionally, the following seem like good candidates:

Cosponsoring Wexler's SPGA:
Cohen, Steve [D-TN], Engel, Eliot [D-NY], Larson, John [D-CT], Moran, Jim [D-VA], and Ryan, Tim [D-OH].

Opposed HR 4411 and cosponsoring Berkley's study bill:
Brown, Corrine [D-FL], Conyers, John [D-MI], Davis, Danny [D-IL], Gonzalez, Charles [D-TX], Jackson-Lee, Sheila [D-TX], Kilpatrick, Carolyn [D-MI], LoBiondo, Frank [R-NJ], Nadler, Jerrold [D-NY], Napolitano, Grace [D-CA], Rangel, Charles [D-NY], Sanchez, Loretta [D-CA], Schakowsky, Janice [D-IL], Serrano, José [D-NY], and Watson, Diane [D-CA]

If any Mass. residents are reading, please call your reps, we have a pretty good group for our cause, I've emailed and call John Olver each once over the past month, time to repeat I think.

Eight out of the 10 Massachusetts members, including U.S. Reps. Richard E. Neal, D-Springfield, and John W. Olver, D-Amherst, voted yesterday against the measure.

Olver, after the vote, said that Republicans brought up the gambling bill for political reasons. He said, "Congress should be focusing on raising the minimum wage, passing a real prescription drug plan within Medicare and creating energy policy that reduces our dependence on foreign oil."

Yes, MA is one of the best states for us. 8 of the 9 current congressmen voted against HR 4411 (the tenth seat is vacant right now).

Of the nine (all are Democrats):

Barney Frank sponsored IGREA and cosponsored the study bill.
Mike Capuano cosponsored IGREA, SPGA, and the study bill.
Jim McGovern cosponsored IGREA and the study bill.

William Delahunt, Edward Markey, Richard Neal, John Olver and John Tierney all voted against HR 4411 but aren't on board with any current legislation.

Stephen Lynch voted for HR 4411 and isn't on board with any current legislation.

Can you believe it? The deep South is very tough for us, obviously.

GA looks like the following:

Lewis, John [D-GA], voted for HR 4411; cosponsoring the study bill...B

Broun, Paul [R-GA] and Johnson, Henry C. "Hank" Jr. [D-GA] have no recorded positions or votes .... "?"

Barrow, John [D-GA], Bishop Jr., Sanford D. [R-GA], Marshall, Jim [D-GA], and Price, Tom [R-GA] all voted for HR 4411 ... "?-"

Deal, Nathan [R-GA], Gingrey, John [R-GA], Kingston, Jack [R-GA], Linder, John [R-GA], Scott, David [D-GA], and Westmoreland, Lynn [R-GA] all voted for HR 4411 and all cosponsored HR 4777 (the Goodlatte ban bill). ... F*

There may be some hope in GA. John Lewis may come around for IGREA. I hope anyone here living in GA (even outside Lewis' district) will contact Rep. Lewis. Of the rest....all we can do is let them know how we feel. If we get every congressman to move up one step for us (outspoken opponents move up to passively voting against us, passive votes against us up to neutral, etc), we'll have a good shot in the House. If these Southern reps understand that there is some penalty associated with opposing us, we'll get at least some improvement in the situation.
