Run earbud heaphones underneath shirt, cup in hand, listen to music, while still being able to pretend like you aren't being rude. Then, if it seems appropriate, or if people won't mind, slip the other earbud in and enjoy.

if you or your gf know these people at all, it's really weird and anti-social.

in fact it's weird either way, b/c if your GF doesn't know these people, then you are hanging her out to dry by listening to your ipod.
