I no longer need to hold out. I can now go buy a ps3 with the price drop being official. I see no reason to buy a 80 gig model coming out in August. If you want a bigger HD, save that $100 for a bigger HD you can buy later.
This news will only surge Sony's dragging console sales. Once Playstation home gets released, it will soar. |

[/ QUOTE ] Although it will definitely increase their sales, I do not see the price cut causing a surge in sales. Overall, there is just not much excitement for the PS3 or the games available for it, I'm not saying it sucks, I am sure it is a very capable system. |

I find it kind of funny that less than a year after release they are having to drop their price, and take more of a hit per unit sold than they already are.
In case people are thinking of buying a new ps3 heres some info that may or not be important when choosing between the 80gb and the 60gb: [ QUOTE ] The new 80GB PS3 that we've seen today has a catch: it has ditched the Emotion Engine chips for software emulation, just like we've seen in the PAL-version PS3s. Yes, software emulation is coming stateside, and it looks like a matter of time until the Emotion Engine chips are kicked out of our 60GB models, too. Really looks more and more like Sony's just aiming to try to get a lock on the high definition DVD / blu-ray market, and worry about gaming later. They've gotta be taking sick losses on this move, and including SIX blu-ray disks just magnifies those losses. HD-DVD isn't doing too hot right now, but the 360/Wii are doing extremely well. Makes sense.
