I get this in for 200 BB all day and am very happy about it. Just because its close does not mean you should ever turn down the opportunity if its +EV. Even if this is not +EV, which it will be with pot odds once we know he has a big hand, it is most certainly +EV for metagame (at least at higher levels). If you won't take slight edges then maybe poker or any form of gambling is not for you. After all, we are fighting for a few BB every hundred hands.

Let me get this straight. The hand goes like this then:

Poker Stars - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $0.10/$0.25 Blinds - 8 Players - (LegoPoker HH Converter)

SB: $50.30
BB: $24.25
Hero (UTG): $50.40
UTG+1: $23.75
MP1: $24.75
MP2: $17.15
CO: $29.00
BTN: $12.75

Preflop: Hero is dealt 7 8 (8 Players)
Hero calls $0.25, 5 folds, SB calls $0.15, BB checks

Flop: ($0.75) 6 J 5 (3 Players)
SB bets $0.50, BB folds, Hero raises to $2.00, Villian pushes all in

and you're happy to call that?

Text results appended to pokerstove.txt

13,860 games 0.005 secs 2,772,000 games/sec

Board: 5d Jc 6d
Dead:

equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 45.130% 45.13% 00.00% 6255 0.00 { 8d7d }
Hand 1: 54.870% 54.87% 00.00% 7605 0.00 { JJ, 66-55, J5s, 65s }

You'll have to explain that a bit more thoroughly for me.

Yep, but I think that you have to take out either JJ or J5 from his range as I think he raises JJ most of the time or folds J5 most of the time. Its like barely -EV and villians dont shove like this normally anyways. The would usually raise to like $7-10 and then you can 4bet or shove. Also, making slightly -EV calls (esp. if opponent knows its -EV) is very very good for your image.

simply...the range you're giving him is way too tight? Come on, you think the only hands people put money in with are sets, and two pairs?

My initial post i said "you are barely losing to 2p's and set's."

You kill all the other overpairs, and you're scared most of another FD.

Of course if i knew exactly what 2 cards my opponent has, i'll tread more carefully.

If you were a live pro who played 240 hands a day or so. How often do you think you'd get in a flip situation for 200bbs?

[/ QUOTE ]
Actually I was not referring to the 200BBs stuff. I meant the hand as played. In this situation it is +EV to call without a doubt, and you should be doing it all day long.

But let's say you are with 200BBs and in a situation that calling all in is +EV. You have to call it here also, more so if you're a pro. You'll be playing thousands of hands as a live pro and you must take every opportunity to profit. If losing 200BBs makes you unconfortable, just cash in and go to another place or maybe go to a lower level. You are playing with scared money.

I understand that some people may play as you say, but they're playing bad poker imho.

The only reasons I can think of to pass on small edges

1) You are not rolled for the game you are in
2) You have limited access to funds/ability to reby
3) You and a poor player are deep and if you lose you will no longer have the ability to get all of his money.

But if I am playing online with the constant ability to reload, I am taking every small edge I can find.
