Haven't seen it yet, but from the comments I've seen so far, I think there are a lot of people who suck at summer movies here.

this isn't a 'summer movie' problem. it really was just unbelievably bad. instead of making the movie about transformers it was two and a half hours of some kid trying to be funny and just being really annoying. and there was a 15 minute battle scene at the beginning and then again at the end. that was it.

It's overlong, and there's too much focus on the humans, but still, it was entertaining.

If you recall, I really hated Fantastic 4, in part because the got all the fun stuff wrong. Transformers made up for that with some awesome action scenes, a lot of corny but effective humor, and some nice nostalgic appeal. It's sure as hell not high art, but again, if you're a kid who grew up playing with the toys/watching the cartoon, I think you'll enjoy it.

I really dislike fast-forwarded action sequences where each shot is out of focus and lasts 1/4 of a second. The movie was OK, too bad Speilberg didnt direct it. It didn't nearly live up to its potential.

FWIW, Roger Ebert hates Michael Bay movies, but almost gave this one four stars.

I just chalked that up to the CGI being too hard to pull off otherwise. That and Michael Bay being Michael Bay.

The most offensive thing in the movie was Bumblebee giving a little fordoor shiver to a yellow bug

I feel like this sums things up pretty well for me.
