I disagree with everything said in this thread. What if you seem too professional?

[/ QUOTE ]

As someone else said, that's really easy to counter by throwing in the "it looks like I'd fit in well here" comments.

Sometimes with clients who might question my stuffiness due to a suit, I might say "Don't let this fool you - on the weekends I'm in sandals and shorts."

A friend of mine got a corporate finance job at Abercrombie headquarters. He dressed in a suit and said ti was funny how the 55 year old CEO came in to meet with the applicants wearing faded ripped jeans and standard tight Abercrombie t-shirt. Nonetheless you should still wear a suit.

Wear a suit. Be funky with the tie. But wear a suit to the interview.

Get into film or music. You can walk in stoned and drunk, too.

Yeah, OP, if you have nothing but traditional suits, go a little flashy with the shirt color and tie.

White Shirt + Boring Tie + Traditional Suit = Stuffy.

Creative advertising is where it's at. They can get drunk or stoned, show up whenever they want in shorts and flip flops, see a movie during work hours, hang out at the beach...whatever they want, as long as it isn't stifling their creativity. You think they are doing nothing all day and then suddenly they come up with some genius advertising campaign to validate their salary.

i've worked at a number of ad agencies, design firms, and marketing companies, and this is definitly not true.

dress may be lax, but you are most likely doing a [censored] ton of work to "validate" your salary.

one of the reasons i most likely own't work at an ad ageny any more is the amount of hours expect of their creatives. i'm just way too lazy.
