Is it ever appropriate to celebrate a persons passing just becuase you have philisophical difference of opinioin with them? Just curious.

Appropriate? Perhaps not.

I think it is reasonable to make an exception in this case.

This was a famously hateful person. He blamed the 9-11 attacks and Hurricaine Katrina on his political enemies.

He was a truly ugly person who made the world considerably worse by his existence.

I will also be pleased when Fred Phelps dies, by the way.

I don't think Falwell would misspell his own name when he signed up for an account.

Ray Zee owned.

When they fundamentally disagree with your ability to be treated equally... yes.

Remember, this guy called the Civil Rights movement the "Civil Wrongs" movement. Classy.

I went to a party full of Bosnians when Milosevic died and I felt pretty good about it.

[/ QUOTE ]

J.F. - 0 people killed
Milosevic - just a couple tens of thousands

he was a flawed man, but far from a monster comparable to milosevic

Not as evil as X is not the same as not evil.

The mathematics aren't so simple as you suggest:
Julius Streicher - 0 people killed.

Nice headline. Somewhere, Greg Raymer is holding a mirror under his nose right now.

Interesting. I would think you could simply beat that person in the marketplace of ideas rather than celebrating his death. But perhaps not. I have never understood why "civility" has been taken out of civil discourse. Even if you don't think that person was civil, why would you ever want to lower yourself? We are often taught in many of today's poker books to treat others with respect (even the obnoxious players) if for no other reason than not to tap on this tank (to borrow a pharse). This allows you to beat that player on the felt. This bit of sage advise could extend to people you disagree with regarding more serious issues. Simply treat them with respect so you can beat them in the marketplace of ideas. But then again . . .I would not want to tap on your tank.

Civil discourse? Poor advice for real life when someone with an agenda tries to stop you from living the life you want

[/ QUOTE ]

He tried to stop you? Really? What'd he use?

Democracy? Exercising his First Amendment rights?

Having a different opinion?

The. Horror. The. Horror.

Falwell was a douche. I am glad he is dead. People who think I am a douche are free to be glad when I die. It seems so simple to me.
