Re: HS/College or new grads: How big is poker among young people?
From my high school alone I can think of me plus three others who make at least $75,000 a year in poker.
Within the Twin Cities area, I can think at least 20 people who qualify within the demographics of this survey and make at least $75,000 a year. |

Re: HS/College or new grads: How big is poker among young people?
I'll just throw a different perspective on this discussion. Over here in Italy, poker is just exploding. Less than a year ago nobody knew about it. Now there are regular tournaments in the closest large town to me, (150,000 people) where over 100 people show up twice a week. It's starting to get on TV as well. I am asked on a regular basis to teach people the basics. I now know of 3 pro's just in my little valley.
I think you're about to see in Europe what happened over your way a few years ago. |

I'll echo the sentiments of Adsman.
Here in Holland poker is getting more and more popular by the day. Under students, almost everybody is playing/ learning the game right now. There are lots of homegames starting up everywhere, and its getting big on TV aswell. The peak of the pokerboom in Europe hasn't been reached yet in my opinion. |

adsman, what are the laws on taxes on gambling in italy? [/ QUOTE ] In the EU, you pay taxes on gambling only if you make the money from the country where you are residing. So, to pax taxes on this in Italy you would have to play at Italian registered sites or casinos. This is why Italy tried to put a block in a few years ago. It had no effect though. |

Re: HS/College or new grads: How big is poker among young people?
I guess poker in Sweden reached its peak about one or two years ago. The game is still very popular and it's almost weird how much the average joe knows about poker here.
The other day, I had an apointment with a naprapath and she asked me what I did for a living. I explained that I played poker and the funny thing is that she wasn't even surprised. She started rambling about some weirdo that won a tournament on swedish TV about a year ago and how funny that was. Hopefully, we'll see poker spreading to other countries now like BombayBadboy and adsman said, the boom has just started in some parts of europe. |

I have a friend from holland who started playing poker, mostly because of my influence. I've been kinda coaching him I suppose...
anyways, from what he says, I'll agree with the talk of Europe gaining popularity still |

Re: HS/College or new grads: How big is poker among young people?
In south Florida, many of the state schools sponsor local bars and become alumnus clubs (e.g. Gator club of Boca Ratio, etc.) Last year, there were maybe 5-10 bars that held weekly NL tourneys where prizes would culminate in WSOP packages. They were nearly always filled to capacity and the attendees average maybe 25 years of age at the most. This year, they have nearly disappeared (read 1-2 biweekly at about 75% capacity). I can only assume the legislation is the culprit.
