Back to the issue in the OP, I think part of what Myrtle is talking about doing is not just broaching controversial subjects. As was noted, many of these don't make for good discussion. Instead, though, most posts in the Lounge tend to be discussions of "things," whether those things are movies, bottles of beer, books, photographs, etc. We only have a couple threads covering more personal subjects, notably the pregnancy thread, and the B&S thread. Also, there isn't a whole lot of discussion going on about ideas. So far, that parenting thread is a good read, and I'd like to see some more of these idea threads come about, provided that they're up to the Lounge standards. Thanks, Myrtle, for helping to get this going.

some very good ideas and points in this thread. Hell, I'd like to see some posts about science, religion, current events, culture, ethics, anthropology, health, and several more things.

I'm going to work hard to think about what I'd like to see discussed, and start threads on them over the next few weeks. It looks to me like the hurdle to get over is to move from 'waiting' to 'doing', at least for me!
