Ok a bit off topic here, but this has bothered me, what is "a kill game"?

Typically in low limit kills, if you win two hands in a row (and the second pot is over a certain size), they'll increase the stakes for one hand, and the killer (you) has to post a double sized blind.

For example, in 8-16, when you win a hand the dealer puts a kill button in front of your stack. If you win the next hand and the pot is over $80 (I think) the dealer will flip over the kill button signifying a kill pot. You need to put $16 out, and you become the last blind preflop, regardless of your position.

All bets are doubled, so if someone wants to raise they have to make it $32 preflop. Essentially you are playing 16-32 for this one hand.

I play at the Deuce 2-3 nights a week. There's some misinformation here so I'll try and clear up as much of it as I can.

Sun & Mon it's closed.

Tue is $25 w/rebuys and single addon NLHE tournament, followed by cash games. Usually 4-8 LHE sometimes 1-3 PLHE.

Wed has been just a 3-6 cash game for awhile, but it will probably be changed to 8-16.

Thurs is $50 NLHE tourney with no rebuys and 4-8 LHE or 1-3 PLHE.

Fri night is cash games, usually 4-8 LHE.

Sat night is $25 w/rebuys & addons NLHE tourney, cash games afterwards usually 2-5 PLHE and sometimes a 4-8 game as well.

Chuck is a great guy, in addition to managing a few card rooms he was also a member of the Mesa PD for 11 years and definately has the place cleared with authorities. They've been open now for over one year, and had several on duty officers as well as a state AG have come sniffing around the place already.

There is security, and to this date I don't believe theres been a robbery in there.

The 4-8 game is played with a kill.

The games are definately a bit slower then a casino. 25-30 hands an hour sounds right. If your a low limit holdem player, I think the Deuce is a much better enviroment then any of the local casinos.

BYOB and food, we'll usually order pizza or something on weekends, no rake.

If I just roll up there, am I gonna have any trouble getting in? Should I call in advance or anything, or is it kosher for me just to walk in?

Is this a CAZ oddity, or do other rooms do it this way? At my local cardroom (SoCal), the killer acts in his regular position. Example: if the player on the button is putting out the kill blind, his option to raise it (or just check) comes after the CO acts, but before the blinds (i.e., at his normal turn to act).

It was a shock to me the first time I played at CAZ a few years ago, and they had the killer acting after the BB like you explained.

I find CAZ frustrating to play at only because the players dont pay attention

I've played at DD twice. Both times, the game was VERY slow...much slower than CAZ games (at least 5-150 and 20-40). Banter between the regulars slowed the game down, as well as the one or two drunks that were trying to play. I'm not sure if this is just poor sampling, but both times, there was at least one drunk in the game, which as you know slows things down horribly.

Again, maybe I just hit the place up on bad nights, but I played 4-8 both times and it helt like we were getting in maybe 25 hands an hour. It was a good game, but I personally don't have the patience to put up with "What are you holdin' Chuck? Two pair?" over and over and over again...espically in a low-stakes game.

Its a 4/8 game, what do you expect? all 4/8 games are like that.

Different areas of the nation have different kill standards. For example the "East Coast Kill" doesn't use a leg up, it only uses pot size as the measurement. In AZ the kill is generally gets the added advantage of acting last (meaning his turn is skipped), where as on the East Coast the killer acts in turn.

Best practice: ask when you are playing a kill game for the first time in a new room.

I would really like to see or hear an offical OK on this type of operation( specifically that it does NOT make the game illegal) for the dealers to accept tips.

The best we can offer is that I spoke with Chuck, and he knows the room is being discussed here at 2+2. As a matter of policy we won't discuss underground rooms in the B&M forum without prior knowledge from the club's owners to make sure it passes the smell test.
