Well, ever since enron, accountants try to give good info because they are held liable personally now. I would set a side some money in case, but not lose sleep over it!

[/ QUOTE ]

you have no idea WTF you are talking about.

CEO/CFOs are personally liable for the accuracy of their company's financial statements.

Individual tax practitioners are no more liable than they were before Enron.

My accountant told me today that if the site never sent me a 1099, then I shouldn't even bother paying income taxes. This was coming from professionalized accountants who knew NOTHING about ONLINE POKER. They said the most likely cause of me not recieving a 1099 is because the sites are probably illegal. They said if you win money gambling at horsetracks or in vegas, you receive 1099's. What is everyone's thoughts?

[/ QUOTE ]

No Accountant told you that. This is the stupidest thing I ever heard. I have to believe you made this up because it is so retarded. ILLEGAL INCOME IS TAXABLE. If you go out and sell $100,000 worth of BLOW that is taxable. Ever heard of Al Capone and every other criminal they couldnt catch. They hit them with tax evasion. You have to pay taxes by law. If you dont claim it will you be caught? I guess it depends on how much money your talking about, but no accountant should tell you to break the law.

This accountant sounds like he knows nothing about ACCOUNTING or TAXES. You would loose your CPA license in about 3 secs for telling someone advice like that.

OP, is your accountant a buddy/accounting student, an H&R block/jackson Hewitt type or a CPA?

k so here is what I did. I dug up every single statement of mine from 2006. I took every deposit that came from my bank and went onto a poker site. I then took every withdrawal that went from the poker site and into my bank. I then balanced them and came up with a net profit. Can I count the withdrawals as my WINS, and my deposits as my LOSSES? not sure if it's worth asking the accountant lol...

[/ QUOTE ]

this is illogical, by this logic you could withdraw say 10k, transfer another 10k to another account and withdraw that, then deposit it on original account and report a net gain of 0

What planet are you from? Why would you count your deposits as losses?

Slim to none. They are no doubt going after some of the bigger winners, however. Luckily, I have no net gain from poker.
