Re: WTF - Setup change?!?!?
Most requests for setups are made by the superstitious, the frustrated, the stuck, the tilted or perhaps the type of opponent who might think 2+2=5 or Mason Malmuth is some vaguely famous British comic actor. Such an opponent should never be questioned regarding this and similar beliefs; they are simply an article of faith, a sort of "virgin birth" for lucky cards. One simply doesn't discuss religion at the poker table.
~ Rick PS Sort of related quick story: When I come to a poker table replacing someone who just left I often pull out the seat they were sitting in and replace it with one from a nearby empty table. Once in a while somebody might question this or raise an eyebrow and the rare times I respond beyond a shrug I might say that the old seat "looks like it has bad beats in it" or something even less clever. That's a lot easier and potentially more profitable than trying to explain that I hate sitting in a chair with remnants of someone's body heat and/or stink. |

This is funny to some of us "older" guys. Asking for new setups was something you'd see every 2-3 hours just a couple years ago. [/ QUOTE ] It is pretty funny. I remember the guys asking for a new set up, then leaving the game for 20 mins. Comes back and asks for another new set up. Morons. Now we have a 4 hour policy. It's funny that some keep pretty close time on that. They may as well set the alarm on their watch. b |

Re: WTF - Setup change?!?!?
At my local casino, setup requests got so out of hand that the cardroom put in a new rule. Players can only request a setup if there's something obviously wrong with the cards. The floor delivers setups every six hours (I think) otherwise. They also have automatic shufflers.

Re: WTF - Setup change?!?!?
[ QUOTE ]
There is a private cardroom that uses brand new (still in plastic) cards everytime some requests a set up? The cards aren't cheap. Even the lower cost plastic cards are like $10 to $12 retail. How does this private room make money spending so much on cards? Or does this private card room use paper cards? [/ QUOTE ] If you're playing some sort of blackchip game, there's no reason to [censored] around with the setups. KEM in the plastic every time. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] When they do a setup change, are the cards that are brought in brand new or reused cards? [/ QUOTE ] Usually reused unfortunately. This is one case where casino poker is worse than well run private poker. [/ QUOTE ] There is a private cardroom that uses brand new (still in plastic) cards everytime some requests a set up? Re: WTF - Setup change?!?!?
I'm sure it is pretty funny to you guys, but I've probably logged less than 200 hours at B&MS at 4 different casinos over the last 3 years, and this was the first time I've ever heard of a setup change. The vast majority of my live play has been at other venues.
It's pretty hillarious that some player at the table told me we were going to have to redraw for seats and I believed him. |

[ QUOTE ] I would leave a game if I was denied a request to change decks. [/ QUOTE ] Dont play at Wynn then. Last I knew, no deck or setup changes allowed unless there is something physically wrong with the deck. I've seen quite a few denials in rooms this past year of setup changes. Floor comes over and asks: "What's wrong with the decks?". No proof there is something wrong = no setup. The other rule I've seen is 1 setup per shift or even per day is allowed. [/ QUOTE ] I'll be sure to remember that. Setups, what a f'ing joke. I used to hate doing them, and I still do. Fortunately we deny requests for setups, only doing them once any 24 hours for the new day. +2 for FW! |

Read the post. No casino will deny a set-up change if you can show the cards are marked or otherwise imperfect. |
